Even TF1 here in France has broken into its normal programming with a special news program.

RIP Queen Elizabeth II.

I just put the football on BT sports (it appears the matches are still going ahead) and all the presenters are wearing black. All programs (BBC/ITV/Ch4/5/some sky channels) look like they have cancelled the evening programs. Sky sports news are showing the sky news coverage

RIP

I've just got a weird feeling in my stomach at the minute, it feels like an absolute lifetime ago since the energy announcement by Liz Truss and although rehearsed heavily I'm sure just like us the media certainly weren't expecting to be covering this news today
A lot of folks returning from work might be totally unaware of Truss's statement. Indeed tomorrow's papers will have it buried pages underneath, normally it would be main headline; and people do need to know (whether you like her statement or not!).

The first thing she said as queen was, "Whether my life is long or short, it shall be dedicated for you and to serve you." Who can deny she kept true to her word? She must be, arguably, the greatest monarch in our history.
May she rest in peace and rise in glory.
God save the King.
so true, so very, very true. Amen

Devastating news. What a wonderful legacy.
May she rest in peace after a truly outstanding seventy years of nothing but pure dedication and public service.

Rest in Peace Queen Elizabeth, the longest serving monarch in our history. May her legacy be remembered for years to come, and her service to the people remembered by the world. Her 70 years of public service set an example for the United Kingdom, Commonwealth and the World.

A significant moment in all of our history, the loss of a Queen who had dedicated her entire life to her country, and has dedicated her life for most of our living memories.

I hope the best for our future King and my thoughts are with the Royal Family at this difficult time.

Amen.

I imagine Boris will be gutted that he didn't get to deliver his statement as Prime Minister, understandably so. Rather galling that Truss was in said position to put something out...

Truly tragic news. Cannot quite comprehend it even though I’ve been watching the live coverage all evening.

All I've ever known has been a queen and I was born in 1979. She had service foremost in her mind. Rest in peace Queen Elizabeth II
That’s what I’ve been thinking. I was born in 1973, by which time she’d already been Queen for over 20 years. It’s going to take some getting used to the fact that we now have a King, and that our national anthem is now “God save the King” and not “God save the Queen” any longer.

RIP Your Majesty.
Went to the pub earlier as it was announced, a free short to everyone to toast the Queen .. 'To the Queen!' and then the landlord shouted 'And god save the King' - A surreal moment.

RIP Ma'am

A very sad day for the whole Country, but at least we can be thankful for having the Queen as our leader for so long. Despite what we think of the new King, I'm sure he will shine a new light and move us forward through some challenging times.

The next few days will be a sombre affair. Me and my dad have already mentioned the Queen's State funeral - it's bound to be the biggest security operation this Country will ever face, with heads of state flying in to pay their respects.

Silver linings, eh...? (and I say that as a Yorkshireman)

RIP Queen Elizabeth II. I'm on the fence about the monarchy in general, but nobody can say that QEII hasn't been an inspirational head of state for the last 70 years. Big shoes for Charles to fill and I'm not convinced he'll be able to, but that's for another time.
