Ooh, d'you think he's one of those cyberstalkers you read about in the papers? ;)

You never know....we rail enthusiasts do have a reputation for being 'odd' I'll be sure to buy a big dog....just in case!

Ah, OK. That's fair enough then, especially as what you've just revealed about your age actually puts you closer to me in years than to Ivo.

O L Leigh

Lol OL sorry if i caused you any offence by leading you to believe i thought you were ancient :)

That's true, I evaded such trivialities by staying bed until noon, asleep and alone before anyone gets any ideas.

This thread has been suspiciously quiet this morning :o

Been chasing round Metroland all day.

It's more fun when you're unconventional, or so they tell me, to me the rest of the world is "odd".

This thread has been "suspiciously" quiet on my part because of my visiting my father, as I had said previously. And tomorrow is NWM Challenge day.

And for everyone else, please stop muscling in on my attempts here :( I'm poor at building relationships as it is...

How on earth did you accidently discover my age?? :)

Another user, sellis89, reminded me of something we discovered last year, which is that I am five MINUTES older than he is. Whilst searching for the evidence of this (which I knew existed, I just didn't know where), I accidentally stumbled upon a post from you which suggests your age (probably minus one year allowing for the date). I'm not going to provide a link here, because we don't want people searching for it (do we?), but I will do by PM :)

Ye shall have a PM shortly...

It's been dead quiet? I had 12 pages to read tonight! Mind you, I'd not been online since Tuesday night. Glad to see the thread's retained it's humour factor, been a brilliant read!

And don't worry Ivo, you're safe. Whilst I may be slightly older than you (by 4 years), I'm perfectly happy being single - there'd be no time for bashing otherwise! - so you've got no chance of me barging into your territory :)

One good thing about a distant relationship, is bashing! You get to travel to your loved one, while bashing! Only... from Bath to Sheffield is predominantly Voyager-run. Urgh.

This thread is scary. The idea of doing anything on a plane or train freaks me out. Obviously it's just me!

Not for those in the know. Four HSTs in each direction at known times. How can hideous Voyagers be a problem unless you want to make the journey several times a day?

I know all about Voyager Avoidance. On planning travel to a meeting Plymouth I found the best train back was the 15:23 Plymouth > Leeds throughout. So appalled at the idea of being on a Voyager for this length of time I actually planned to drive, until I found out this is actually a HST diagram and everything fell into place :)

One good thing about the FGW timetables that include XC runs. They specifically state either (H) or (V) above all 125mph stock, so you can tell which XC services use HSTs! All you then have to do is match the times shown in the FGW timetable with the times elsewhere. Of course, it only works with those trains that are actually in the FGW timetable in the first place...

Is this now officially a "love" thread, or still the Metre High Club?

One less person for me to worry about then! Although, I of course knew that already...

What does everyone think of the revised sig?

I look forward to resuming this thread properly on Sunday :)

Or simply do as I do and mark all XC HSTs in the main book with a highlighter as soon as you've bought it!

Because the 4 diagrams start at Neville Hill and Craigentinny, it's better for Northerners though. :)

Certainly the case with a certain lady in the past. I very nearly took her to Teignmouth for a weekend as an excuse to do the Sea Wall (being new to bashing then - hadn't been there before). Of course, this was back in Valenta heyday. Possibly lucky I didn't, because it was terrible weather and the line was shut. I wouldn't mind being trapped in a seaside hotel with her for a few days ;) , but it might have been awkward if people had noticed we were gone and put two and two together.

I doubt anyone can beat my travelling to a loved one while bashing. For about 6 months I was living in Belfast and she was in Dublin. Every weekend I travelled up to Dublin on the 08:00 Enterprise (booked to take 1 hr 55, or 10 minutes *FASTER* than today's best, despite millions spent on new track and signalling, more powerful locos, and longer trains then than now. Explain that to me if you can), and back on Sunday, netting 226 miles of massive GM haulage.

At the same time I was commuting daily from Belfast to Larne on thumpers, getting 250 miles a week on those fantastic machines. Awesome.

Or bashing while bashing your loved one, if the rest of this thread is anything to go by...

Or in the case of some poor lonely souls simply bashing your loved one.............

I hope you are refering to bishop bashers rather than wife beaters here...... ;)

Thinking about it, it would have been great had there been a class of loco nicknamed 'bishops' back in the day. I'm about 25 years too late, but I should have tried to get 'bishop' going as an alternative to 'spoon' or 'duff'. After all, we all know what class 47 bashers are...........
