The “379s are coming to EMR” rumour is clearly nonsense/wibble, but rest assured it isn’t limited to this forum!
I think it originated during the initial period of poor reliability of the 360s, and was fuelled by the fact that 379s would, at least on the face of it, have been better suited to a fully guarded TOC, due to the corridor connection removing the concerns around guards not being able to walk through the entire train*.
As things stand, the 360s are now pretty dependable. The refurbishment
@LowLevel and
@baz962 alluded to above sounds very comprehensive indeed, and should (belatedly) deliver what was originally promised to the punters. So there’s hopefully scope for optimism!
*The working arrangement “fudge” agreed for the 360s in 2019 was IIRC for a customer host or RPI to be rostered to the middle unit during 12 car ops, albeit it became a moot point during Covid, and
they still don’t have good enough unit availability for many (any?) 12 car trains, due to the perennial issue of units running out of mileage before they can get in for exams.
