Do you let them in or not. Is it TfL policy to let them in or do you have to deny them entry no matter what.
I had the same role play scenario and I did not let them in. I explained they need a valid form of payment in order to be let through the barriers as per policy.

Yeah it does take time apparently but once you’re in, you’re in. Read up on the old forums and TfL policies :) good luck! Keep us updated

I'd extend that to 'once you've passed training and probation'.

Have a think about what TfL is selling... What's the product?

If you were at a job interview for Waitrose and they asked you "Would you give free food to someone who said they didn't have any money?", what would your answer be?

And if your answer was yes, how do you think that interview would end?

Well yes, but I’d also like to think that you’d have to do something very very wrong to get this far and then not pass training and probation!

It happens far more than you might think...

Does anyone know if you get your Oyster Card as soon as you start training or once the training has completed

The first day of your training date you should receive it.

I just went for my medical today, all went well and said I should receive my training date very soon!

In the Medical do they do a drug test ? What usually happens during it ? Also how long after the screening are you offered a medical date ?

Yes, they will do a drug and alcohol test, and if you fail it you will fail the medical. If you’re on any prescription medication make sure you declare it beforehand.

Always worth reminding folks coming into LU that by contract you can be randomly drug and alcohol tested at any time on the job, and of course as a safety critical role you must also be free from both when booking on. Falling foul of these is the quickest way to get your P45 (and possibly worse).

Aside from a D&A test you’ll also have things like your height, weight, eyesight and colour vision checked, as well as a general run down of your medical history. As long as you’re in relatively good health it’s nothing to worry about, and becomes a somewhat regular part of what will hopefully be an illustrious career.

Hi guys,
My Reed screening was completed 17/07 and I have still not received any emails or calls for a medical. I emailed the onboarding team for updates and all they told me was that they are currently waiting for start dates to be confirmed from the business and until that moment they can’t proceed. So I’m not sure how long I’ll have to wait, I applied in the beginning of May it’s been a while now. If anyone’s in the same position as me, hang in there :)

I finished my screening 2 weeks ago and received my call this week for medical. You should be expecting a call hopefully next week or so.

Thanks for letting me know. Do you mind telling me what kind of number it was just so I know to answer. If it was 02 or 07 or unknown etc.

I got an email, as I missed the call but I think it will be an 02 number, but best answer any calls.

It will almost certainly be an 020 7 number, the TfL Switchboard, which appears for all calls from the internal network to the outside world. However, it does occasionally come up as an Unknown/Withheld number, so do be prepared for either.

Hi,

Yes they do a drug test using your urine sample. Funnily enough my screening isn’t yet completed but I was booked in for a medical.

I was told my screening would be completed as soon as I am booked in for my training date.

So my advice to anyone is don’t stress if your screening is not yet complete. It will be completed once they book you in for a start day or just before.

Also in terms of the medical test, it took me about 25/30 minutes in total. It may take longer if you have any conditions etc

It is rather weird that I got called for a medical when my screening is yet to be completed. It’s still on checks sent.

Anyone else who got a medical date screening actually complete, or is it on ‘checks sent’

First they checked my eyesight and my colour vision which all checked out fine.

Next they checked my hearing.

Finally, they tested for drugs in which they took my urine sample. They tested it in front of me and said it was all good.

After all the tests your sat down with the medical staff as they go over generic questions, such as whether you drink alcohol, whether you smoke etc.

The lady then told me I passed all checks and will be informed of a starting date soon.

Does anyone know TfL policy in regards to working two jobs.

If possible I’m thinking about keeping my current job but just doing 1 day a week. Does anyone know whether TfL will allow this?

This will depend entirely upon what the job is, what the hours etc. are and how flexible those working days are.

If it’s in transport, has long hours, could be considered a conflict of interest and/or the one day is fixed almost certainly not. If it can easily fit around your shifts (bearing in mind initially you may only get 28 days notice of what you are working if you are ‘over establishment’) and isn’t going to impact safety critical working it’s unlikely to be a problem, but your employing manager will have the final say - this will be your Area Manager once you are allocated an area to work at.

I know plenty with second jobs/freelance gigs and provided you declare this and take the view that it works around LUL and not vv there’s largely no issues. I wouldn’t suggest anyone tries to do so without declaring it however, especially if PAYE, as the company almost certainly will find out and it would be a disciplinary matter.

As per their duty of care form that one has to submit as part of recruitment you have to declare to them about the second job . So I am guessing they should be okay as long as you adhere to their policies about number of hours u should be working ( I think this is meant to protect people from overworking)

Hi there I have a question about my Reed screening , they have been trying to get in contact with one of my previous employers who has not replied to them and now instead of saying ‘reminder sent’ it now says ‘Not delivered’ in a red box. Just wanted to find out what will happen next ? Is this something I should worry about ?

If I remember correctly you can provide evidence of your employment dates via your online HMRC account and TfL are happy to accept that.

Have you tried contacting the previous employer and see if they got the email? Mine didn't and they checked the email address and resent it.
