Inspired by the other thread, I was wondering what you thought were the best and worst rail adverts. This is referring to video adverts rather than posters or billboards.

For me, Virgin tends to produce some very good adverts such as "The Return of The Train" and Success Express.

I also like some of the East Coast's miniature characters (although it was pretty much a straight copy from NXEC) - LINK.

The strangest one I've ever seen was made by Eurostar - LINK. Although, their newer ones are much better.

I hated the advert the Virgin advert for that businessman on his way to scouseville.

Was that an older one? The "Success Express" is going to Preston.

Bring back Jimmy Savile and ..This is the age of the train

Well, yes, but I think BR were ridiculed for "we're getting there".

I don't like anthing produced by the Trainline and TransPennine Express's effort is rather mediocre at best.

I saw the one with WH Auden's "Night Train" on youtube the other day and felt quite emotional.

Does anyone remember an advert for Regional Railways which went "we'll take you there" ? I keep on about this to people and they say they can't remember it. I'm sure there was one! Searches via youtube etc have not come up with anything.

One that I liked was "Central Trains . . GO!!!!" with the caveman and traffic jam.

Fairly old ad from BR days here, for the InterCity 125 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iN7naLLeB0A

Certainly agree it's probably the best railway advert.

Not sure it did much for the sales of wash-off paint as 37093 had to be sent for repainting at Stratford after filming (the origional idea being that the paint would come off when it went through the washing plant).

Im rather a fan of the Southern "Loco Toledo" ads (rather embarrassed to admit as there so cheesey  ). Ive met the person who plays him too, whos quite a nice person :)

And i do rather like the Virgin ads posted above.

Not sure if I'm missing something here but I definitely saw a 319 (FCC, albeit still in Southern livery) and a 376 (Southeastern - at what looked like Waterloo East) in that ad.:?

Ah but did the public notice? ;)

I just wasted 10 minutes of my life going through the loco toledo channel... it's fun, but gets boring after the fourth time you see a recycled ad...

Easr Midlands Trains are fond of racial/sexual stereotypes. They once had one with Japanese cartoon characters that one would have thought would alienate all their potential customers from Toyota (who do use the train if they have a meeting in London)

I couldn't understand why a Midlands train company would be featuring someone with a Dagenham accent. Then I realised the idea was that if an Essex girl could use their booking system, anyone can.

Its about time they used an advertising agency that doesnt employ overgrown schoolboys.

The Trainline radio advert is really annoying me. For one, they don't save you any money at all, and two, they've ruined what was once a half decent song.

I actually quite like the choo choo choo Trainline ones. You've all noticed them which makes them good adverts!

I'll admit, it sticks in you're head, so I'll give them credit for that! :)

Not an advert but the Southeastern company slogan probably needs some work - "Make a connection" - that implies that none of their services go where you need to go :lol:

Most of the TOCs slogans/taglines are strange, as well as some of BRs.

BR - "We're getting there"
Virgin - "Where do you want to be?" (Answer: not here!), "Love Every Second"
CrossCountry - "Your search engine" (I know it's referring to the website, but it still makes little sense).

My favourite has to be "Here to take you there", which has been copied multiple times!!
