Hey what date in September did you get the offer? I’m September 4th and was told it could be September/October to start but of course this might have changed.
Hey,
I got sept the 2nd. I hope it doesn’t change at all but you never know unfortunately

for us September lot just gave recruitment a call the lady on the phone said it could even be next year when we receive a start date as they are only doing courses every 2 weeks and have start dates booked up till September but again they have started on August so fingers crossed
That’s not true. I phoned this week and was duly informed that currently they are up to date with mid August intake September offers should expect a date between August and September. There’s not waiting until 2026.

We need to establish first that if poster is talking about CSA night tube or full time CSA. As both have different timelines for training and waitlist.
I am CSA1 night tube , received my offer on 5th September 2024. I called them yesterday (Monday) and they said it will be long wait. And it will be probably start of new year.
So please confirm if you are CSA1 night tube or CSA2 full time?

Hi, I start next Monday 9th June but have had no extra info - just the contract and offer letter so far.
However a lot of their emails get to me after 1pm - so it's a waiting game. Otherwise I believe we just turn up at Ashfield House before 9am with our passport IDs...
Cool yes I assumed it would be Ashfield house
Probably get official docs tomorrow :)

A curious question. The TfL drug and alcohol policy for satefy critical roles is very strict - you can expect to be tested from day one of employment (and during any pre-employment screening).

Here is an older FOI on the TfL Drug and Alcohol Policy

Unannounced testing
Unannounced testing for alcohol and drugs forms part of the company's initiative to meet the due diligence requirements of the Transport and Works Act 1992.
The programme of testing enables the company to monitor data and compliance with its alcohol and drugs policies and enables the extent of alcohol and/or drugs use in the workplace to be established.
Unannounced testing applies to all LU employees who are classified as safety critical.
LU has decided a minimum of 5% of safety critical staff are tested per annum, but no maximum number has been set.
Unannounced testing is not random but a planned programme for carrying out urine and breath tests in accordance with medical practices, standards and ethics. This is to detect drug and alcohol use on a selected sample of employees, who will not be informed in advance that such tests are to be carried out.

...and just to add to what @Mawkie has said, there is evidence of "random" (unannounced) testing happening on day one of training.

Definitely a curious question.

I am 100% sure. Nonetheless, as I’ve said on this thread before, railway jobs are a lifestyle. If you’re even slightly worried you might fail a D&A test then this really isn’t the industry for you.

As for a union, it is a personal choice and you should choose one - or none - that most aligns with you. No one else can tell you that. However, RMT is by far the biggest on LU - particularly for stations - and as an all grades union will be there to support you throughout your career. Full disclosure though, I am biased as a senior RMT rep within LU.

And this should go without saying, but I feel the need to: if you fail a D&A test during training and you’ve only just joined the union - or even joined because you’ve failed - you’re very unlikely to find a (voluntary) rep to back you. There are some huge red flags for me here, speaking both as a member of staff and as a rep.

like others… confused on this line of questioning. can confirm that d&a testing can happen at any point in your life working life at LU and TfL, including day 1, and 100% has happened on the first day at ashfield before.

it’s a poor attitude to assume otherwise, and if you can’t adopt that, then it really isn’t an industry you will last in.

apologies if wrong end of stick, but it just comes across as an odd line of questioning that doesn’t fit the strict legislation and requirements surrounding the railway.

It's sensible that you're thinking in advance about these things.

It is entirely the responsibility of the employee to inform their manager of any medication they are prescribed.

Within a training setting, I would advise your trainers if you are taking medication.

(Note: this includes over-the-counter, prescription, and herbal, drugs.)

...and just to link into this, as long as you declare it at the earliest opportunity you shouldn't have any issues. There are some things that will always create a red flag, but - and I speak from first hand experience - if it's for a long-term (or even short- but likely to become long-) condition it should be fine after referral to LUOH.

With my TU rep hat on, happy to comment further privately if anyone wants some advice but also understand that people might not want to disclose deeply personal medical information to a random on the Internet...!

are u excited? or a bit nervous as whats to come, be ready for many acronyms and jargon, and a uniform that may or may not fit you, other than that the course is quite enjoyable and the trainers are good
