    "Inside Number 9" - Wednesday 8th May.

This show returns next week for a new series. The trailer material for the first episode states :- “Late-night passengers get stuck in a tunnel when their train breaks down. Patiently, they wait for the replacement service until a nurse gets her purse stolen and tempers start to fray.” From...

Merseyrail legacy fleet updates (Class 507/508)

I’m making an ad-hoc visit to Liverpool tomorrow, could you tell me if the 507s are still on all-day duties, or if they now only just work peak trains. Also, if someone could let me know what the 507 workings are tomorrow, I’d be grateful. (I know that won’t be known until tomorrow!) Many...

    Old Dalby Test Track

A landslip just north of the Old Dalby station over bridge, on the Up Reversible Line ( the one fitted with 3rd and 4th rails ). It slipped in the same area some years ago. Last time I was up there repairs were underway, but it looked quite an involved job.

    Tram Derailment at Bulwell 12/06/2023

Lots of speculation on here. I worked on this tramway for many years, and the way these points work has not changed. These are spring points. They have no motor. The blades cannot move unless a tram passes over them northbound which pushes the blades across and then they spring back. They...

    Tram Derailment at Bulwell 12/06/2023

It does look like that, but I think it’s something to do with the reflection of the tram headlights on the track. The points are sprung, as are all the points at the stops between Bulwell and Butlers Hill. There is no points motor on any of the points. Hucknall points are powered to enable...

    Tram Derailment at Bulwell 12/06/2023

Sorry, my bad. I meant the front bogie has taken the right route as viewed from the direction of travel, as opposed to the left route. Right = wrong Left = correct. I hope that makes sense!

    Tram Derailment at Bulwell 12/06/2023

As viewed on this video, the points in front of the tram are “spring” points. This is the part of the tramway where it becomes single track (with loops at tram stops) all the way to Hucknall. As the tram travels north , the point blades are pushed over by the wheels, and spring back after...

    Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Bus News

There were new E200s ordered (or about to be ordered) for the Threes in 2020, but certain events that year saw them cancelled…. M

    Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Bus News

With regard to the bus station, the issue is that these services probably get a 5 minute turnaround in Derby. To work them to the bus station, load and leave again would take longer than 5 minutes, so an extra bus would be needed in the cycle, with all the associated cost/staff. This is the same...

Is the Nottingham tram the most expensive railway in the country?

When the operating contract was retendered as a result of the extensions to Clifton/Toton Lane, (it was in the original contract that it would be retendered if the extensions happened) two bids were required from each bidder, one with conductors, one with tram stop ticket machines. The council...

    Nottingham Tram Derails

From the Nottingham Evening Post today….. Interestingly, this is a plain section of track, with no points etc, but I seem to recall there’s always been a bit of a hump where the track passes over the River Leen. *this is by no means meant as a reason, just a statement of fact!!*...

Trivia: Significant gaps in mobile coverage (and wifi) on the rail network.

What happened to the project to use some form of leaky feeder trackside to ensure consistent wi-fi? The idea was that there would be closely spaced beacons trackside, linked into existing trackside cabling, to pass data to the train as it passed. I spent a very entertaining afternoon some...
