Got an advance from Sheffield to Southampton Central tomorrow. Looking at the tube map I have on another tab I can go:

Piccadilly line to Leicester Square, Northern to Waterloo.
Victoria line to Oxford Circus, Bakerloo to Waterloo
Victoria line to Warren Street, Northern to Waterloo

Any route people recommend for ease or best route? I'll be travelling at 1445 ish, train at Waterloo at 1535. Got a maltese cross on my ticket of course.

Cheers

First result on TfL Journey Planner is Kings Cross St. Pancras to Oxford Circus on the Victoria Line then to Waterloo on the Bakerloo.

Same route is recommended by Tube Exits, taking advantage of the cross platform Victoria-Bakerloo transfer at Oxford circus and taking 14 minutes.

Get on carriage 4 at Kings Cross and the same at Oxford Circus :)

The quickest would probably be Victoria to Oxford circus then bakerloo because of the Cross platform interchange. Though the walk to the Victoria line platforms at St Pancras are quite a trek.
If the weather is good I would also suggest walking to Euston and getting the northern line from there.
A final route would be to get Thames link to London Bridge then hop on a train to waterloo East.

I walk fast and usually find the quickest route is Piccadilly and Northern, but if you have a lot of luggage the Victoria and Bakerloo as mentioned above has a nice cross platform interchange

Oxford Circus, as said. The only route that offers a short flat cross-platform interchange

Excellent, no baggage or anything. Just headed down there for the football. Vic then Bakerloo sounds good to me.

Anyone know what the best way to get from Waterloo to St Pancras is at 0115?

Probably either a Taxi, Night bus, or walk to Blackfriars (south bank entrance) and take FCC to St Pancras.

N1/N68/N171/176 night bus to Tottenham Court Road, then N73/10/390 to St Pancras.

(If you get the N1/N68/N171 and see an N91 when passing Aldwych/Holborn, then jump on that instead.)

Or take a BorisBike... :)

I don't think you can do it door-to-door in one bus journey but if you walk to Southwark you can get the N63 which goes to St Pancras, or cross the river to the Strand and get the N91.

Assuming you don't need step-free access; then don't use the tube entrance in St Pancras, use the Euston Road entrance (in front of Kings Cross station) instead. It's a much shorter overall walking route to the Victoria line platfoms.

... Blackfriars (south bank entrance) and take FCC to St Pancras.

Assuming Blackfiers - St Pancreas is a permitted route, I suspect its more likely to a "London" mapping in the routing guide (yellow pages) necessitating the the tube transfer or walking/ pay for bus etc.

I've walked (very, very quickly, I'll admit, but just walking, not running) from the South Bank Centre to Kings Cross in 25 mins.
Waterloo Bridge - Kingsway - Southampton Row - Judd Street

Waterloo to St Pancras wouldn't add anything more than 2 minutes.

FCC (Thameslink) services are part of cross London travel and, as they are not LUL services, break of journey is permitted.

It's a bit of a moot point as the first available train (if starting from Waterloo at 01:15) is the 02:23 from Blackfriars. It would be far quicker to walk!

I've done King's Cross to Waterloo (mainline platform to mainline platform) in 22 minutes during the evening peak; I changed at Leicester Square. Any of the three the OP mentions are decent though. (One I would not recommend is Northern to Bank and W&C to Waterloo, as this involves quite a lot of walking between different parts of stations.)

OP has an Advance ticket.

Indeed I do. £14.50 booked as soon as the match date was confirmed, which is essentially 17 days! £16.50 back. Can't be bad. SHF to SOU for £31 with a 16-25 railcard at 17 days notice!

In case anyone is wondering, yes I'm off to the Capital One Cup tie between Southampton and Sheffield Wednesday.

That is a very good price for such a short notice.

pretty much due south till you cross the river, then turn right along the south bank, there'll be plenty of signs for Waterloo along the south bank,
this way you get to see a bit of the city.

This was the route my OH instinctively used for this tube journey (which is a big detour eastwards and back again) and even managed to touch out and in through 2 gatelines when interchanging at Bank, thus incurring 2 charges for the trip. Luckily the oyster helpdesk refunded one!

I think the logic was "I know how to get to Waterloo from Bank" coupled with "I know how to get to Bank" without stopping to consult a map.

Number 59 bus. Leaves from opposite St Pancras on the Euston Road and will be quicker than 2 tubes, with the time needed for changing. The 59 will beat the underground except at rush hour, plus it's cheaper.

... is also not included in the fare the OP paid. Therefore the OP will be £1.35 (£2.30 if paying by cash) worse off by taking the bus.

I always do Victoria - Oxford Circus - Bakerloo. See my Railmiles below for proof of how quick it is ;) (last one was 13 minutes, the Vic line is seriously fast and the Bakerloo line seriously empty! Get on the last third of the Vic train, then cross over, the back third of the Bakerloo line train will be empty but the front rammed!)

Technically the N63 only goes to Kings Cross (although, confusingly, it does come FROM St Pancakes).

It's only a short walk from Kings X to St P though.

I really doubt that. I'm not saying I disbelieve you, but I'd like that theory tested.

My personal first choice for this interchange would be Boris bike, followed by 59 bus. I agree that NR platform to NR platform, the 59 is no slower. I've also walked it. The majority of the route is bus lane.

However, as a maltese cross ticket is held, then it is sensible to go tube (and I would agree with Oxford Circus.
