Also interestingly a Scottish (Paisley) born player scored the winner for England, and an English (Doncaster) born player scored the opener for Scotland

Well I enjoyed the match even though England won. I didn't realise Ricki Lambert was born in Paisley :o He certainly put Rooney to shame tonight.

That shot from Lampard that hit the bar would have been a cracker :p

Eh? :-?

Proud of Scotland, good performance, got the ball on the deck and passed it whenever possible. Optimistic for us in the next campaign, if we keep up the good efforts of the last two matches.

BBC live feed put that he was born in paisley, Scotland. I trusted that the BBC live feed would be accurate.
Wiki also confirms place of birth as Liverpool, which I have heard before when Southampton played Liverpool last season

Has Jerusalem been mentioned in the past as an anthem for England...?

Jerusalem...That area of the Middle East seems to have a most strange affiliation to England.

Not so long ago, St George was being feted as Englands' national saint, even though he was born in what was once referred to as Palestine.

Wales draw 0-0 against Ireland which is probably a better score line for Wales then Ireland.

I see that Brazil lost 1-0 to Swizerland last night in an international friendly match.

I imagine they got Rickie and Paul confused, but Paul was born is Glasgow, and started his career at St Mirren.

I invite Mr Moyes to look at the fixtures facing Aston Villa at the start of the season but of course he manages Manchester United so is better than the rest of us plebs

I thought Villa picked their own fixtures? After all they do offer tickets to imaginary fixtures in cup competitions they've already been knocked out of.

Well Moyes has had a masterclass in such tactics from the previous incumbent at Old Trafford.

I hope Moyes remembers how unfair the league is when Howard Webb and other refs cosy up to his team while the likes of Norwich, Cardiff, Hull, Palace, Southampton and co. get nothing more than a thrown in all the game.

You really couldn't make this rubbish up about how unfair the league is to Man U. if one team has had all the breaks it's them by a mile.

That was before the outcome was known, not "already been knocked out". Minor semantics yes but really no different from selling futures on the stock market.

Do Aston Villa now have enough power up front, as they have let Darren Bent spend this coming season on loan at Fulham ?

Only time will tell but I am hopeful the answer is yes. Bent did not play all that often and it was rare that both he and Benteke played together. If the latter performs like he did last season I think we'll be fine but I am concerned that clubs will be getting the measure of him.

Sadly it's infuriatingly hard to prove even if the FA wanted to investigate.

Although I have them down to win in TPL this week, I hope Derby crash and burn. They cost me £20 last weekend <( I had a six-way accumulator and the other five came through...

Last time I bet on Brighton in the post-Poyet era.

Speculation my friend.

The difficulty is proving it. If it cannot be proven then it is impossible for anyone to take any action.

But when you reported that Manchester United were doing the same thing (they weren't) you said the club were arrogant.

Well you have a nice easy start, playing a team that allowed 26 players to leave and brought in one (on a free I hasten to add). That is a net saving on wages, a net saving on transfer fees and a net saving on actual players.

As Jim Royal would of put 'Arsenal a top 4 team MY ARSE!

My prediction for later a 2-2 draw.

This evening Darlington were presented the Northern League Trophy after a 3-0 victory against Guisborough.

Our record was P46 W40 D2 L4 GD110 Pts122

I recall you making this posting which reflected a most notable first step back on the climb up the football pyramid. The 2013/2014 season in the new league, the Northern Premier League Division One North, will see many southwards away fixtures for Darlington 1883. I see that your first fixture will be at home to Warrington Town.

I have to agree with Moyes that we've been given a tough start, but the comments the implied that the fixtures were constructed that way are a bit ridiculous in my view.

I see that Mourinho is also not too happy with his start, saying that it is 'difficult.

I'd rather play a promoted side at home than an away trip to Swansea, not an easy ground to go to at all.

He also couldn't resist a dig at the way United and City won the league in the last two seasons.

But of course, it's our José, I forgot that everyone was meant to love him and not question the comments he makes. Now if Fergie had said these things....

looking like some good games in the premier league today.
Villa contingent might be very happy in 5 minutes time.

I'm very happy with the early kick off result as well, very impressed with us.

Suarez wont want to be joining Arsenal if he has watched them today!

Ah thank you richw, I was going to take a screenshot of the league table for posterity. Now if only final score would acknowledge we played well

nope just that your players were double team fouling and getting away from it, and Arsenal were rubbish in the final third.

A lot of physical contact is a foul these days. I'll be interested in seeing if the ref made the right decision in not sending their goalkeeper (who's name I cannot spell) off though. I've not seen MOTD so can't comment further.

Yup, hence the screenshot for posterity

Manchester United have no less than three players booked in the first half.......That will really upset the usual "conspiracy theorists" on this thread..:D

How come the match is being shown live on the Channel 11 "Pick TV" on Freeview....my son has just telephoned me with all this news.
