Slightly off topic here but I was on board a 318 this evening into Glasgow QS LL. It’s normally 334s on my line but of course 318s and 320s are common on Balloch services. It’s odd because I’m actually a fan of the 318s I mean they’re good units especially after being refurbished - they look pretty decent.
My partner of whom I was with made a comment “oh that’s an older train” and he isn’t an enthusiast or anything like that so he has no idea. It did make me think however, no matter how much they’ve tarted up the 318s - they still look like older units. They lack that modern vibe that is conveyed on the 334s, 380s and 385s. It’s odd. I don’t know if it’s the non airliner seats, the slide doors. I’m not 100% sure but they are visibly older. Then I remembered they’re actually a fair age now. About 33 years old actually. Compared to units like the 318s, the 365s are fairly modern so it would be bizarre for them to even be considered for scrap.
