57301 hauled some to Wales yesterday (10/3).
So far, the GWR Scrapping moves have been as follows, running as 5Q76 from Long Marston to Newport Docks:
- 21/2/20: 57312 leading 42383/42518/42233/42381/42305/42303 between barrier coaches
- 25/2/20: 57312 leading 42115/42166/42108/42294/42178/42519 between barrier coaches. (NB This ran as 5W76, and was top and tailed with 57305 on the London end)
- 4/3/20: 47813 leading UID rake of coaches between the barriers
- 10/3/20: 47813 leading UID rake of coaches between the barriers
FGW PCs 43 009 and (I believe 43 010) are at St Phillips Marsh with five slam door Mk3s. Doe anybody know their future? I though it was only 088, 156, 160, 162 that have the potential to become part of the Castle Class sets.
Interesting..... The rumoured full length sets for standby purposes or something totally different??? Are you able to elaborate? They are Angel Power Cars and paired with the former Hull Trains set. At the moment, it's not fully known, but I have a strong feeling all will be revealed in a few weeks time.

Isnt 029 at Laira as well? and what of 088, 156, 160 and 162?If they stay, they'll be short sets. There's still a handful of Porterbrook and Angel power cars dotted around the network, with 022 / 171 / 172 (Angel) & 063 / 086 / 161 / 180 (Porterbrook) at Laira and 009 / 010 (Angel) at St Philips Marsh.

Just the power cars.Didn't realise that! Are more Mk3s being done as well?
Saw an online video of 2 green 37s hauling former LNER Mk3s 42123, 42335 and 42125 from Tyne Yard to Crewe HS between two barriers earlier today. Any idea what’s happening with them?
Well, that snippet certainly adds up with the one car of NL65 left in Tyne Yard...The TS to LSL are all from the former NL64 set. I've been told that one car from each of NL64 and NL65 has been retained for use with XC. Can anyone confirm this, or is it confusion with the TS going to LSL?
If they are for use they would need to go for sliding door conversion, in which case why not use ex-LNER vehicles with similar seating. If it is happening, much more likely for component recovery. The TS to LSL are all from the former NL64 set. I've been told that one car from each of NL64 and NL65 has been retained for use with XC. the rail industry continues to send comfortable stock for scrap. Surely with enough willpower and some possible concessions someone somewhere could have upped rail's game and put these trains back in to use?
One of the disappointments of the last week is that the rail industry (and the DfT) seem to have idly let the aviation industry pick up Flybe routes (e.g. Southampton to Manchester) without even attempting to up their game. Despite net-zero carbon targets, the alternative rail service between Southampton and Manchester is an hourly four or five-car service which is so overcrowded that getting a seat is hard, let alone having a comfortable environment to work (which is often needed to attract modal shift). I am well aware that it isn't as easy as "simply running more trains" but it seems quite galling that in a week when domestic airlines are continuing to find a niche, the rail industry continues to send comfortable stock for scrap. Surely with enough willpower and some possible concessions someone somewhere could have upped rail's game and put these trains back in to use?
My thought's exactly, however I still have my doubts that any of these will be for XC - even in spares form. Hauled to LSLs depot in Crewe by LSL locomotives. All 3 are Porterbrook vehicles as well, which fits in with LSL purchasing sets from Porterbrook.
XC don't just use Porterbrook. Some of the power cars and stock are Angel.I wasn't suggesting the 3 collected by LSL were for XC, just that NL64 was not being scrapped. XC of course use Porterbrook and with the transfer of LNER sets to East Midland I'm not sure how many LNER sets Porterbrook have for disposal. Limited choice for XC, and for a TCK conversion the body and running gear condition might be more important than the chairs.
Time will tell, but the gen did come from someone in the industry (train care).
Former GWR TFs 41108, 41059, 41182, 41162, 41169 & 41176 (all, by pure luck, in GWR Green) are being/were moved from Long Marston to Eastleigh Works by 47805 & 47810 (top and tailed) as 5Z47. This *might* be part of LSL's charter rake.
While that’s true, I just can’t see any of these two rakes being used - both weren’t in the best of condition when they were disposed of, so unless they took a body (when there’s probably better condition other ones out there).I wasn't suggesting the 3 collected by LSL were for XC, just that NL64 was not being scrapped. Unless LSL have changed plans again, I reckon we’ll be seeing one full TF set for your dining type experiences, and another for more rail tour type markets.
Apparently now on their way to Newport, along with 2 others. Maybe robbed for spares?Saw an online video of 2 green 37s hauling former LNER Mk3s 42123, 42335 and 42125 from Tyne Yard to Crewe HS between two barriers earlier today. Any idea what’s happening with them?
