So I applied for gateline assistant a few months back for Clapham Junction. I passed the assessment and the interview but was not given the job due to someone else being given it due to them having more experience. Over a month and a half on today I got a call saying I am given the job for the Gateline assistant in Waterloo! I'm so happy! lady said I will have to attend medical on the 10th and I will get all the details in a letter they are sending me before hand. Does any one know when I will get the letter roughly? I feel all this is too good to be true! Feels like a dream! lol. Also what procedures would I go through at the medical? Any additional information will be appreciated. Thank you !

With me SWT HR have always been really good, so you should expect your letter Monday or Tuesday.
The medical is quite straightforward, you will have an eye test, including a test for colour blindness, a hearing test, an ECG to check your heart, a blood pressure test, they will check your BMI also, and you will have to provide a urine sample for a drugs screening.
My medical was for a trainee driver position but I assume it's the same medical for all roles that require one.

No not at all really. If you wear glasses/contacts obviously take them with you.
If you are generally fit and healthy you should be fine.
Don't drink a few days before I'd say, and if you haven't taken any drugs you'll be fine.
Are you worried about any aspect of it?

Would have thought some of those tests that were in the trainee driver medical wouldn't be in the gateline assistant one - like the colour blindness - unless you're looking at the lights on an Oyster reader! ;)

Good luck with the job, hope the medical and everything goes well! :)

Well done, I look forward to seeing you at Waterloo very soon! If you need any help let me know, I was gateline for three years before I got my guards job.:)

Good Luck, I'm waiting for one of these jobs to come up for Scotrail...

I'd love to do something like this... and reap the benefits of being employed by a TOC!!

The medical is straight forward. The hearing test demands close concentration but you don't need a perfect score to pass because most people hear better in one ear than the other etc

They test if your colour blind by showing you a book with pages full of colour. Apparently if your colour blind you see numbers where they don't exist.

Totally normal to feel worried, pretty sure most people going through a recruitment process worry too much!
Try to keep as relaxed as you can and I'm sure you'll be fine.
When is your medical, and have they given you any idea of potential start date?

The medical is on 10th, and they said I'll be starting on 30th of January. So still a way to go lol. But thanks for the confidence boost. Needed it.

Congratulations greaz, great news for you! I understand how nervous you feel but you should be fine. If your medical's not 'til the 10th you've plenty of time after Christmas to lose a few of those Christmas pounds!

For a Gateline role, they don't care about BMI anyway, you should see some of the revenue staff ;)

Best of luck, hope you pass it. I'll probably see you around if you pass, I'm Gateline at Clapham :)
Cheers mate, sorry for the personal question but what did they do for you at your medical exactly? If you don't mind me asking lol

No worries, it's not really personal considering its the same for any Gateline candidates I suppose!

For me, eyesight check consisting of the usual reading numbers and saying what you see in front of you, a hearing test, weight check on scales and general health questions. Last is the urine sample that you provide in the toilet there, I think my whole medical took about 30 mins max, it's over relatively quickly and you find the results out after 2 working days or something like that.

Most of the health tests are aimed at safety critical roles, Gateline isn't, so only the Drugs/Alcohol urine screening is really essential to it.

One piece of advice is familiarise yourself with the location of the place (Friars bridge court I think its called), as you want to get there on time at least and have a stress free journey there! :D
