    Red Spotted Hanky.....

Not seen this mentioned on here anywhere.... http://www.redspottedhanky.com/A new(?) booking service using the Atos system (like East Coast, Southern etc...) There aren't any booking fees like a certain other ticket service, and more interestingly, you can use Tesco Clubcard points to book...

    No cards on Pendolini!

Says the man in the shop on the Pendo I'm on at the moment. As of last week, Virgin stopped accepting debit or credit cards in the onboard shop, now it's just cash and cheque(!)(and I'm sure he said rail vouchers?) If you ask me, it seems a rather retrograde step!

    Aztec Camera

Aztec Camera - All I need is Everything A song I've never heard before, didn't do too well on the charts in 1984, but the video features some 1959(?) stock and a little clip with some mk2 air-cons at an unknown station... I think it's nigh on impossible to work out which stations this video...

    Culture Beat

I've not done this for a while, but I've found a relevant music video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7thIG5SJMs&feature=related Between 1:58 and 2:17 it shows a nice selection of 'clagging' Valenta engines at an unspecified London terminal. I'm not going to say which one, but you must be a...

Was intending to do the 1423 Preston to Hazel Grove 180 today from Bolton, though LDB says it caped due to a train fault. Any idea what's up / which unit has failed?

Retro Oldham Loop & Cumbrian Coast Tour

Rather than continuing the old Retro Avon Grid thread, I've started a new thread for our 29th August 'Retro Oldham Loop & Cumbrian Coast', from Huddersfield up to Carlisle. Come along, and support a good cause while you're at it, as we are again supporting the West Yorkshire Forget me Not...

    Bank Charges

I received a letter this morning from the Halifax, stating that they are charging me £35 for going overdrawn by £4.95, and then on top of that penalising me £28 'unauthorised overdraft fee'. In total £63 for £4.95. It was 'my fault' that I went overdrawn, as I used the wrong Halifax card at...

    Don't mess with 25kV

As it's rather disturbing, I'm not going to post a direct link, however, I received an email earlier with a comment 'No Messin' with 25kV' Anyway, if you type'Man Gets Electrocuted on Train' into Google, you will see what I mean.Of course, don't watch if you're of a squeamish or nervous...

    Something for your CV?

These days, as grades are getting 'easier', and student's results are looking very similar, making your CV and UCAS forms look as interesting as possible is very important! If you fancy doing something fun, and also having something credible to add to your UCAS form, why don't you try...

    Leeds City barriers.

This point was highlighted when the ticket barriers at Leeds City station were installed, however, I thought they would have 'fixed' it by now. Anyway, I decided to try them out. I had a Platform ticket from Norwood Junction, dated 13th February 2009. I put it through the barrier, not really...

    Vibrating Pendo

I'm on a Pendolino (25 for those that care) from Euston to Manchester, and I'm sat in the FC motor coach (the section where the roof is lower to accomodate the panto). There are awful vibrations and squeaky sounds every few minutes or so, (the squeaky sounds seem to be particularly eminating...

    "mk2" Voyagers.

I am currently on a 'Super Voyager', from Wolverhampton to Wigan. I am sat in the coach behind the buffet. I was rather surprised when I entered this coach. The first thing I noticed was the removal of the luggage rack, replaced with just a 'space' for luggage. The second thing I noticed, which...

Another 'Phil Sayer' bites the dust.

Unfortunately it seems Phil Sayer's famous Huddersfield announcement has been switched off for the last time. I was at Huddersfield yesterday, and noticed they were fitting the new 'orange LED' screen, replacing the seemingly more advanced and versatile colour monitors. The rather 'camp'...

    Another Railway related music video.....

It's been a while since my last 'railway related music video / song' post, however, I've found another one; and quite an interesting one at that. The song is 80s 'Industrial Electronic' band, Cabaret Voltaire's 'Yashar'. Here is the video: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=T1fQZg2oVno . Can anyone...

    Fairground Attraction - Perfect

So, We didn't get to the bottom of the 'Smalltown Boy' ticket office and bridge question... however, moving into the later 80s, just over 20 years ago, in May 1988, the one hit wonder, 'Fairground Attraction' released their catchy 'perfect' song. Thanks to YouTube, you can view the video...

    Jimmy Sommerville- Smalltown Boy

Hi, I am annoyed I cannot anwser this myself. The video to 'Bronski Beat's' 'Smalltown Boy' features Mr. Sommerville at a ticket office / station somewhere on the WR (identified by the 210 DEMU, HST and the DMU clearly leaving Paddington at the end of the video) My question is: 'Is the...

    Sncf Strike

I am very annoyed. We complain about our train service, however I am currently on free wifi in a hotel, which cost me 55Euros, in Amiens, due to a damn 'greive', or strike for the non French speaking amongst us. In Britain, if we buy a ticket from A to C, and there is a problem, meaning...

    No Sleeper on LDB

Ive looked on the LDB for the beds from Fort William (and Spean Bridge & Rannoch) so it appears it is not showing on the system. Perhaps FSR dont want people to know the delays with the 67's!! (also the ABD sleeper is not showing up either)

    Last Aptis
