    Liverpool Lime St remodelling

A few shots of the local train shed (taken backlit by Sun, sorry!) with a 66 parked up and lots of work going on - this morning (6th Oct). It's taken from behind the ticket barrier; hence the tunnel vision. Plus another few of the long distance trainshed (as per Kevin's, obscured by fencing...

Liverpool Disruption 28 Feb 2017 - RAIB report released 30/11/17

Arrived at platform 2/3 (on foot) - I now realise - shortly after this had happened. The wires on 2 were bouncing about like crazy. The chaos to services began unfolding shortly afterwards - understandably. This was about 1730-40. Apparently, there had been quite some flashing in the tunnel...

    Manchester - Liverpool Electrification

Again, excellent work from all those who have documented this project (and of course the members who have been working on the infrastructure!) Very happy to report that as of this morning, the lonely errant "wire tie" dropper just a few yards west of Garswood station footbridge has now been...

    Manchester - Liverpool Electrification

Again - great work. Another great set of shots but sad/disgraceful news for our equine friends. To celebrate the nicer, albeit cold weather, I took the bike into work today so didn't see any first-hand wiring evidence at all; though having ridden past Carr Mill twice today (albeit in the dark)...

    Manchester - Liverpool Electrification

Just a quick note to everyone involved to say thanks for your hard work involved in photographing and cataloguing the work on the lines. I live not far from the Liverpool-Wigan line and travel on it every day, but unfortunately due to working patterns, most usually in hours of darkness...

    Manchester - Liverpool Electrification

I must admit, that did amuse me too - grew up not a million miles from there. It's Laffak Rd, though, which I think escapes the forum censor. Problem solved :) Still no evidence of activity at Carr Mill Viaduct just yet, save for some electrification related gubbins dropped at the side of the...

    Manchester - Liverpool Electrification

Just to update on static infrastructure: the Liverpool-bound line in the Garswood area is also now wired (catenary and contact). Looks like they've done both in one sitting this time; previously there was a few days after the catenary getting strung up.

There is now pickup/contact wire - if either is the correct term - hung from the previously reported catenary in the Garswood area. It's still only above the Wigan-bound line and has been there a couple of days, but haven't seen it reported so thought I would do so :)

There is a similar section of return wiring up at Garswood. It's on the Liverpool platform side and pretty much stops at the platform end towards St Helens while extending a few tens of meters beyond the platform edge towards Bryn.

    Carr Mill station reopening?

Thanks Paul, I've now caught up on the referenced thread. I think that what you say is true - clearly both St Helens Council ans Merseytravel have aspirations for the station to be built - and it is a case of getting funding from somewhere. As you say, even if that is a case of burying it...

    Carr Mill station reopening?

Paul and Adam, There is some information at my post http://www.railforums.co.uk/showpost.php?p=1536318&postcount=14 that you might find useful. The LCR report makes useful, if not encouraging, reading. Here's the link to save you following up my post...

    Manchester - Liverpool Electrification

Just a quick report to say that things again seem to have sped on around Garswood and St Helens Central. Central's Liverpool bound platform looks much like the Junction's does in DJH1971's pictures above, but there now seems to be pretty continuous mast or gantry upright work both ways from...

    Manchester - Liverpool Electrification

Moving back to trackside infrastructure briefly, a few more items noticed in the last week ish. Had a somewhat broken journey into work yesterday morning owing to a couple of pre-work appointments, so I got to study a few locations in a bit more detail than usual. Garswood now has a pair of...

    Manchester - Liverpool Electrification

Agreed - there are now also several gantry uprights in the area around Watson st, Greengate hot end, and the old Ravenhead works. Thatto Heath (& Eccleston Park, actually!) station also now has a gantry upright or two on it's platforms. Looks like it is picking up again locally. It had gone a...

    Manchester - Liverpool Electrification

They are heading that way but don't think there is anything past portico playing fields just yet. It really will change the landscape, would be good to have a photo diary from a few viewpoints showing the difference. In further mast news, I've seen the first of what appear to be gantry...

    Manchester - Liverpool Electrification

Thanks for the info near Bryn, Bevan. Mast numbers are gradually increasing - there has been a spurt between Eccleston Park and Thatto Heath. Most of those stored at Prescot signal box site have now gone. I suspect if you want any photos of Ravenhead/St Helens without masts, now would be the...

St Helens Central - St Helens Junction Rail Link?

There is not an awful lot, if any, new information in the following, but it did, along with the other aspirations, make the local paper a month or two ago: http://www.sthelensstar.co.uk/news/10559520.Town_is_on_track_for_joined_up_thinking/ The article discusses the local potential schemes...

    Manchester - Liverpool Electrification

A bit more mast / gantry progress at Prescot. A few have appeared on the St Helens side of the station, by Warrington Rd (I think!) bridge, but only alongside the St Helens direction. They do look amusing with the arms swung over away from the running line. Significantly, the site of the old...
