    A career as a signaller

Think about what the railway needs. Safety critical comms. Communications should be ABC, Accurate, Brief & Clear. Do you understand why the phonetic alphabet is used and numbers pronounced 'one eight' rather than 'eighteen'? Why is information read back and checked? Much of the communications...

    Call HR perhaps?

    Train Drivers retirement age?

They can discuss it as much as they want. However they would require the law to be changed to implement it.

    Accessing personal mobile phone records

Stand corrected - thank you for the clarification. I suspect most people like me find it reassuring.

    Signaller school York 13th feb

I thought people were encouraged to stay late on the simulators and also work together occasionally in the evenings. That's a bit hard if they have to travel to the Uni 3 miles away by bus for the evening meal at 6.30!

    Accessing personal mobile phone records

Why would the RSSB or the RAIB have seizure powers? They can investigate but surely they would need to persuade the police to carry that out?

Creation of class 230 DEMUs from ex-LU D78s by Vivarail

I would suspect that some people (Ford) might consider that statement a defamatory one and without any evidence. I wouldn't do that on a public forum.

    NR Casual Uniform sizing

I've not met my work colleagues yet and have a NR casual uniform request to fill. Does it err on the side of large or small? I'm often between L & XL...

    A career as a signaller

A quick - real salary question. Having gone through the various overtimes Sundays etc is it fair to assume that salary +25% is pretty accurate in a 12 hr ROC with no overtime other than Sundays? If Sundays are overtime and 12 hour shifts 06/18 18/06 do you get 1.5x time for all the Sunday...

    A career as a signaller

It sounds like you should be OK. However it shows the importance for everyone in this industry to really understand what they are taking. For instance, do you know where the supplement you have take has come from. Is it a legit source? Can the doses and ingredients declared (or not) be trusted...

    careers

No it's not at all. Use your experience to your advantage at the application stage, and show that you are open minded and keen to learn at interview. Then you've got a good chance. If you approach it with the attitude that 45 is probably too old you and can't convince yourself, you'll never...

    AHBs not interlocked with signals?

Mod Note: split from Lidlington level crossing accident thread http://www.railforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=139794 In 2017 are we really saying that a barrier like this isn't interlocked with signals? Thus, if the barrier/lights control system failed that the train would sail through anyway...

    Signaller assessment

I think that they were seeing how you react to the thought that signalling school needs effort and isn't 9/12 weeks holiday in a hotel! Although probably not officially part of the interview its good showing people around to be able to see how people react to others, and how they will behave in...

    A career as a signaller

Personally I'm not handing my notice in until I get the message from NR that all pre-employment checks are complete. I've passed the medical and given references which will be fine but better to be safe than sorry!

    Signaller assessment

They will ask you questions like, " give an example of when you have worked with someone who was difficult and how did you deal with it. Look up the STAR technique for answering questions. Also ensure you know about NR's values, and some facts and figures about the growing railway. Make eye...

    Signaller assessment

So what if there was only one internal candidate? In this case should they just get the job because externals aren't allowed? Even if they are the wrong person for the job? If you are a former postman shouldn't you have equal rights for a job on the railway? If the relief guy can't get on...

    Trainee Train Driver Pre-Employment Referencing

No you should be fine. They have to work with what they can get. There are many companies (mainly US owned) who have a policy of not giving references at all. Given their little use for the reasons Greenback mentioned, the real reason they are still used as a little building block for the...

    Signalling and colourblind tests

Do the TOCs do something different then? I was told when I had a NR medical for signaller that they only accept Ishara.....

    Signalling and colourblind tests

You have to be able to pass the Ishihara test (numbers in circles) Rather than worrying about why not get your optician to check next time you have an eye test and at least you will know whether signalling is an option career-wise.
