    A career as a signaller

I’m due to start next week. I’ve read the joining instructions which state we have to complete an online rail industry induction. Presumably we should complete this before joining the company? has anyone else had trouble with this induction? It all seems simple and easy to understand yet I just...

Anyone else start at York on the 15th March? Looks like The general consensus on here is not to try and learn anything prior to the course other than reading the handbook etc that they email over.

I think a lower grade position is good at building up experience. I have applied for lower grade boxes in the past and been unsuccessful, so I’m just glad to be given an opportunity regardless of grade. Money is nice but as you said isn’t the deciding factor.

Thank you for your help. This forum has certainly been very useful in helping me throughout the process. Ideally I would have started at a lower grade in a box to get experience and then applied for a higher grade post. I will certainly make the best out of it and put my social life on hold...

c2c trainee driver (part time) & Shunter driver jobs

I applied in August 2019 for a shunter driver role, passed all the assessments and never heard back. Had the dmi in September 2020 and never heard back. Presumably anyone that didn’t hear back was unsuccessful. ive been offered another role now but would have been nice to have got some...

Thanks for your reply mate. I will of apply myself throughout the training and job in general. Can’t wait to get started and stuck in to be honest. I would presume that whilst a grade 7 centre is busy, it’s not as overwhelming as a grade 8 or 9.

I’m an external applicant and due to start a grade 7 role in an IECC. That’s certainly a bit worrying. Was it a lot of trainees that had to leave?

    A career as a signaller

Does anyone know what the failure rate is for a new signaller, I.e the number of people that are sacked as they are not up to it (either at signalling school or on the job). also how hard is it for someone off the street to get to grips with a grade 7 iecc with no prior rail experience.
