Motorway Driving - too many idiots

For some good illustrations of the above, try the YouTube channel Just Rolled In.

Rishi Sunak and the Conservative Party.

I bet the politicians wading into this nonsense were fawning all over Stella McCartney's designs for Team GB in 2012 - and she did something very similar.

Competition to name one of the Class 150s on the Marston Vale Line announced

I'm going with "⦻COND", but I don't think they'd see the funny side.

The "And in other news..." thread

I worked on the Log Flume in the late 90s. Once he gets the boat home, five arm wrestling types in it should be enough to stop it floating away. Don't ask how I know!

Trivia: Odd or Bizarre moments in the rail industry

BR sending a class 89, 90, 91, 150/2 and two International coaches to Hamburg in 1988 for an exhibition.

I was wrong - they were right!

I'm not sure if I stated it on here explicitly, but I predicted that the various unions would give up their industrial action with passengers / the government / other stakeholders being willing and able to hold out indefinitely. It hasn't quite panned out like that!

    Annoying television adverts...

I've seen a John Lewis advert involving some sort of scary plant. Maybe I wasn't paying attention, but if it's meant to make me want to shop there, no wonder they're in the ****!

Frighton (Brighton given a spooky temporary name by GTR)

In the event of any disruption today, expect the TOC's social media team to be dealing with questions like "how come you've got time to **** around with station names, rather than providing me with a train?" Not worth the trouble, IMHO.

Elon Musk - the world's "greatest" spiv?

Everything around Musk seems to have a The Day Today-style surrealness to it! "Reactions to the new measures has been strong. So far, we've spoken to Kim Wilde."

    Remaining Effects of Covid

Jolly good! That should be just enough to keep the in laws at bay again this winter, given they're petrified of COVID. Every cloud...

Heritage railways and camp sites within walking distance?

Glencote Caravan Park at Cheddleton is a few minutes' walk from the station on the Churnet Valley Railway, and right next to the line, too!

    Ticket office closures

At the risk of sounding cynical, keeping things off the books?
  13. OuterDistant

    Ticket office closures

Quite. For a business, accepting cash is almost always a downside: risk of theft / skimming, vulnerability to counterfeit notes, vulnerability to scam artists ("no, I gave you a twenty"), arguments about the wrong change, time spent counting it up, time spent paying into a bank, etc.

Rishi Sunak and the Conservative Party.

Quite. It's awful that people simply trying to buy a home are in this position, but it's the result of various governments trying to kick the debt can down the road ad infinitum. At some point, the music stops and there aren't enough chairs!

Rishi Sunak and the Conservative Party.

Who'd have thought that several years of emergency, near zero interest rates would result in this

Rishi Sunak and the Conservative Party.

"Tonight's top story: Boris Johnson deliberately misled Parliament. Also tonight, Pope confirmed Catholic."

Rishi Sunak and the Conservative Party.

That honours list is corrupt. If I was leader of any opposition party, I'd just refuse to recognise any of the awards given in it.

    Cars and owner stereotypes

But that's how it's supposed to work. All lanes should be used right up until the merge point, then you merge in turn. Hence the appearance in recent years of signage saying "use both lanes".

Passengers stuck on Churnet Valley train due to large snowdrift on the track

How odd. I was on the trackbed of the Oakamoor - Alton section on that day and the only traces of snow were in some nearby fields. I guess it shows just how different weather conditions can be in a small geographical area.

Any thoughts on Gary Lineker’s tweets?

I suspected this would be the outcome. The BBC would probably have been taken to the cleaners if it had gone legal.
