    Where has a 195 been?

195s have run via Bolton right from when they started in service. When the Lake District to Manchester Airport service generally ran via Wigan, there was an early evening service that ran non stop from Preston to Oxford Rd through Bolton.

West Midlands Class 323 - the final countdown

Liverpool to Blackpool, Liverpool to Manchester Airport, some Wigan to Liverpools, some Crewe to Manchesters.

Porterbrook Cl.769 'Flex' trains from 319s, initially for Northern

Another problem is that Liverpool guards don't sign them, although they have booked work on the Wigan to Man Vic peak services via Chat Moss, so they can only be substituted when there is a spare Wigan guard available.

    Class 150/2 question.

Northerns have come from different operators over the years so they have variations but where these control panels exist they cannot be used for standardisation.

    Class 319 Northern departure

Not quite so clear cut. There will be 4 car diagrams on Chat Moss services and several Blackpool Nth to Manchester Airport services will be 6 car. Liverpool to Wigan/Blackpool will mainly be 3 car 331s. It is temporary until the 323s arrive from WMT and crews are trained. They will initially go...

    Northern Unit Refurbishments

Is the curvature at Shipley any worse than that at Carnforth platform 1? Here 6 car 195s are dispatched by a guard stepping right out with no need for use of cameras or a dispatcher.

Porterbrook Cl.769 'Flex' trains from 319s, initially for Northern

Should have been clearer, it's the WCML south of Springs Branch that they can't be used on (which obviously stops them being used over Chat Moss from Wigan). They are cleared but Network Rail want to keep them off the WCML as much as possible so they can only go that way with special permission...

Porterbrook Cl.769 'Flex' trains from 319s, initially for Northern

They've only been cleared on the routes they have booked work or empty stock moves over. Reliability issues and there not being enough of them about to perform a rescue. Network Rail want to keep them off the WCML as much as possible. They would only be able to run in diesel mode that way anyway...

Porterbrook Cl.769 'Flex' trains from 319s, initially for Northern

That's only because of the Hindley engineering works, and them not being permitted to run via Chat Moss. They are expected to be back in service on 15th May.

Trivia: Areas that a class 158 have never been on.

Pretty sure they've been between Barrow and Millom on evening services around 2018/2019 before 195s were at Barrow.

How long do Northern class 319's have left?

The airport to Blackpool services should be a mix of 4 and 6 car 331 and doubled 323s from December. Should be plenty of capacity. Should 323s not be on the route by then their diagrams would be covered by single 319s (doubled up units pointless due to platform lengths and no SDO) although this...

How long do Northern class 319's have left?

I've heard that the exchange of 3 and 4 car 331s across the Pennines will definitely be taking place for December 2023. (3 cars heading east to form 6 car trains, 4 car units all moving west) Will cost Northern in the region of £6,000 per unit to move them. Liverpool to Manchester Airport will...

Class 156 on Barrow to Manchester Airport line

Liverpool crews do work some Barrow -Airports between Preston and the airport, Piccadilly crews also operate parts between Preston (drivers) Oxford Rd(guards) and the airport, Blackpool ex TPE crews also work the route throughout and none of these sign 158s but all sign 156s.

No, the time lost at Farnworth was due to a failure to call at Moses Gate.

Porterbrook Cl.769 'Flex' trains from 319s, initially for Northern

153s are banned through Wigan Wallgate for clearance reasons.

Porterbrook Cl.769 'Flex' trains from 319s, initially for Northern

No but it has been agreed that they will get them.

Porterbrook Cl.769 'Flex' trains from 319s, initially for Northern

Aren't 323s just as rubbish 4 bike space as 319s/769s?

Porterbrook Cl.769 'Flex' trains from 319s, initially for Northern

13.30 Stalybridge to Southport (769442) and 14.50 Alderley Edge to Southport (769424) both delayed at Bolton this afternoon due to power switching issues.

Do TFW use the original 319s driving seat?
  20. S

Porterbrook Cl.769 'Flex' trains from 319s, initially for Northern

The cab air conditioning issue (and non acceptance of the current driver's seat) seems to be no closer to being resolved. Today's test run should have happened last week but ASLEF refused to let any of its drivers be involved so had to be postponed to when a manager was available to drive it. I...
