1992 tube stock unit 91331 was spotted by a YouTuber with new internal modifications, running on test, but no motor traction changes as of yet. It was seen departing Tottenham Court Road.

Actually is quite a big difference in driving an LCD screen compared with a dot matrix indicator. It's not just the backlight that's the issue.The light source in modern LCD panels is LED, so no great difference.
Older LCD panels used cold-cathode tubes (like flourescent strip lighting) which consumed more power, but still not nearly as much as incandescent bulbs.
