Can anyone help please, can't see to gain acccess to the group bourdon tool. Apple user and have tried on both my phone and laptop. Can't even send the file onto anyone else.
Hi, you can buy a book called 'Dots Concentration Test' on Amazon. I also paid for online tests and used both to practice.

Hi, I had my pre-employment medical in Glasgow the other week. At the end, I was told that I had met the standard for everything (hearing, eyesight, colour blindness, height/weight/BMI, BP, blood sugar, alcohol and drugs) BUT that they wanted me to "have a chat" with a doctor at another appointment due to a medical condition I disclosed on their detailed questions form. Basically, I had surgery on a leg joint a couple of years ago after an accident. I also have a learning disability. I've passed the assessment centre and interview, so it was a real blow to "fail" the medical. Has anyone else had experience of this "chat" with an occupational physician? What should I expect? Thanks

While I can't vouch for the conversation you will exactly have, I imagine it would be along the lines of any issues with the joint mobility and strength- how do you cope with walking long distances (you're required to walk up to a mile and a quarter away from your train to lay emergency protection, so two and a half miles/ four kilometers in total), walking on uneven surfaces (ballast), climbing ladders etc.

They may decide to actually make you walk the full protection distance and back, before offering you a position. I know a guard returning to duty who had to do this before he was signed fit again.

Thanks so much for this information. It's really helpful.

After a year since starting application, been invited to assesment for a GWR trainee driver :p

At the beginning I was practicing Grp Bourdon daily, then after a few months stopped. My own fault. Work and other commitments.

Now, with only 6 days notice from invitation, need to jump back up on the horse and get my head down. Luckily had A/L already booked giving me majority of days leading up to study.

Wishing everyone who's applying for any TOC best of luck. This forum is full of experience & knowledge, and spending down time trawling through looking back at advice.

Congratulations! It’s been a long old process!
How did you hear? I’m still waiting for news from the same trawl.
Best of luck prepping for the assessments.

It has been a long process so far! But worth it for the end goal :)

Had an email out of the blue!

Thank you!

Group Bourdon

Does anyone know if you have to work from Right to left on each line, or can you start right to left, next line dowe left to right?

Left to right each line. If you were working from right to left and only got half way across the page when they say to stop. Any groups of 4 to the left of where you got to will be counted as a miss and you will probably fail.

Thank you. Will adjust my practice :)

Currently waiting for a medical result from NWR (maintenance planning, so non signaller/track, assuming it’s just the questionnaire), does anyone have a rough timeframe for how long it takes them to return?

Hi all, I'm just wondering if anyone has experienced MMI interviews at multiple TOC's.

I'm awaiting an MMI date for GTR and already know exactly what the questions are from the assessment center day, however does anyone know if the MMI questions held at the Watford OPC center should be identical to these?

I've been offered a stage 2 assessment center for another TOC and don't want to be focusing all of my preparation questions on ones which might not be applicable! Thanks.

Hi all firstly thank you for reading my post and any support would be greatly appreciated.

I have an upcoming Assessment day and as this is my second attempt I am keen to smash this one and take advantage of this amazing opportunity. During my previous assessment centre I hit enhanced on Bourdon and Phonebook test but did not hit the enhanced standard on the TRP1. So I guess my first question is;

  • Regarding the TRP1 do people have a preferred method that they find helps them retain the information? (I feel that when I make notes this can be somewhat of a distraction to my focus).
With the computerised tests I have practised what I can using the practice material, and watched some YouTube vids to help me prepare for the ATATV.

  • Is there any further resources that people felt help them practice this, and worth using?

Finally, the MMI. I have worked in high pressure environments for many years supporting children and feel that I have many examples for Emergency Situation, Lone working, Concentration, Customer Service, Delivering information. The one potential question giving me MMI anxiety which I am confident will come up is around Rules and Procedures. When looking at my experience I worked for a national delivery company and therefore trained and followed lots of health and safety whilst out delivering (Learning the different rounds ,identifying hazards, keeping safe), and whilst in the yard manual handling, using specialised equipment, pre-vehicle checks etc.... Does this sound like it has the foundation for an answer that will hit the mark?

Once again thank you for viewing my post, and just to confirm I am here for advice/guidance and do not want to be spoon-fed anything, always happy to do the hard work. Thanks.

As someone who has also worked with children and completed an MMI, you can 100% relate this to rules and procedures. There are many, many rules and procedures in place in that environment.

I think working with children is one of those jobs that covers pretty much anything that comes up in an MMI.

Thank you for your response. I think my reluctance is that I used an example as you've suggested around working with children and the safeguarding procedures in my DMI. Unfortunately, I was asked if I had a more specific example. I know that the MMI is a deeper dive so trying to find something that will showcase my skills.

Do you mean DMI (Driver Manager Interview)? The MMI is part of the OPC testing process, the DMI will be TOC-specific and so will vary between employers.

Can you use the STAR technique to get you to use a specific example? I used this for my conductor interview and passed.

Have an Assessment for TOC trainee train driver.
Does anyone know how long a pass in all tests are valid, in the instance I pass but do not take the job with that particular TOC?

Thanks

Normally 5 years but each toc has their own requirements, some are less.

Would indeed, GTR do it in house. Received and short answered the 6 questions months ago and completed SJT on their assessment day. MMI is then the final stage of their recruitment process bar medical.

That's interesting. So who actually carries out the MMI? A Driver Manager or similar? Or someone in Recruitment?
