I would like to nominate Elephant & Castle platform 4 for the biggest step down and step across from train to platform. I think it must be a diagonal distance of over half a metre from doorplate to platform edge. Really quite shocking! Wonder how many people cope... anyone like to add others? :D

One of the East Croydon platforms (Thameslink services to Bedford leave from it, can't remember the number) has a very large step from platform to train. It's a wide gap plus a good step up.

Possibly any station served by a TPE 170 when the wrong side doors open due to wiring being done by a 10 year old.....

I nominate platform 2 at Salford Central, it's the only gap I've seen where other passengers have to assist each other onto the train

Pickering on the NYMR and one of the smaller stops on the Highland Mainline (can't think which one right now) uses portable plastic plinths on the platform next to the doors. The plinths must be about 300mm high leaving the same height again to step up into the doorway.

A Southern station and EMU is bad, but I forget what they are!

I'll upload a pic from Belfast Central soon, one hell of a gap there!

Aye, they are quite common in North Scotland. Dunkeld certainly has them.

Platform 1 at Worcester Forgate St is quite bad in places (some parts it's fine; other parts it isn't)- the station is on a bend and the train leans away from the platform edge. If you misjudged it then you could easily fall through the gap. It's quite a stretch to get up onto the train.

Yorton between Shrewsbury and WEM has special wooden portable steps to aid egress

Sankey. The eastbound track was canted at some point in the past to allow higher speed but it was neither lowered nor was the platform raised. You almost need a ladder to get on and off, and there are no steps/boxes to assist. Elderly passengers have a bad time. The conductor will help if asked. However, at other low-platform stations I've seen steps being provided - why not here?

Liverpool bound at Hamilton Square is up there with the biggest step up onto a train.

All stations shared by the Watford D.C. lines and the Bakerloo line. Due to the differences between their respective stock(s).

Clearly none of you have stopped at Selhurst Platform3 on the Down :) Might as well be stepping down onto the ballast.

Platform 4 at Berkhamsted is bad at the London end owing to the curve, but it used to be much much worse. Climbing in or out of a class 310 was "fun". You would open the door to get out and owing to the banking of the track on the curve the door would swing all the way and bash the train side, then making it hard to pull all the way round to shut again. There was then a high step down avoiding a large gap, in total a void of about 2 foot to cross (probably not actually that big, but it appeared huge).

Platform 3 north end at Harrow on the Hill has a very big step down / up. You literally have to climb into the train.

That'll be platform 2.

As a seven year old the step between the Platform at Queens Park onto a 314 seemed massive (about waist height) but I haven't visited the station recently enough to check how high the step actually is.

Llwyngwril (portable steps) and Aberdyfi (small raised section where passengers are advised to get off) both have significant step downs/drops.

Beeston used to have very low platforms, although I believe they've been raised since I last used the station.

On the Tube, Piccadilly Circus (southbound..?) on the Bakerloo Line is pretty large. A good foot and a half I'd guess.

They have installed the ramp at Aberdovey now, but that only covers the centre 2 doors of the train. If using the front or back doors you have almost got to climb halfway down the train!
Fortunately I was sitting near the middle doors when arriving with my suitcase recently.
There is a large gap created at Poole as the platform is on a curve, especially if the door isn't at the end of the carriage.

The platform at Hampton Court is pretty low.

I would have to agree that Elephant and Castle platform 4 is awful. I use the station for work, and I loathe boarding a train I know will be using it.

Platform 2 at Todmorden has a large gap when it is a 150. Not too bad with other trains though.
