Mainline services should be leaving Clapham Junction early too in the up direction. At one point the instruction applied especially to trains at Platform 7.

Did they? I need to go to specsavers.

The compensation you'll be getting is longer and more frequent trains. Or would you rather that these improvements did not occur and instead the current train length and service frequency continued forever?

Unfortunately, as a guildford commuter, it will mean bugger all extra for me. Plus I'm about to move into London so I won't even have to deal with Waterloo again soon anyway

First Time I've worked a ten car today.(I've worked them on other routes though.(455+455+456))
to Hampton Court
to Guildford via Epsom (twice)

Tomorrow debut for the second time in the international terminal...Had been in and out of platform 20 before they rebuilt it all.
458 ten car down the Reading road also.

We've all had warning letters regarding stop shorts, fail to calls & SPADs of which there have been 4 during the blockade.

I haven't been up there since it has started, but those who have, have either been very early arriving in or very late and very late back which was 2 hours on one occasion (wouldn't get me doing that, I'd be passing back, 30 mins, but 2hrs)

Hi,hows it going? :p

It's been crap for the jobs so far, they've been long...I did jokingly say this to other drivers last month...not realising how right I would be.Oh well I've only got 12 days left of the blockade to work.

Perhaps I will be luckier next week.

Yes I've heard about the incidents but it's all over the place so you have to be very careful...I've wrote "don't stop at vox" and also Earlsfied in the morning although the trips I had today weren't too much of a problem.Heard there was a problem at Epssom with the boards but on my first trip I saw the eight/ten board but worked out it wasn't mine (Southern).Second trip seemed everything had been fixed.Still after dealing with the boards at Southampton,Epsom was a doddle. Also yesterday had Micheldeve stop on a 1W on the up but not on the down AFAIR.

I didn't realise it would be a problem for other drivers. Most trains down there seemed to be 455+455+456.

Noticed this afternoon at Motspur Park that the announcement said "this train has 10 coaches - because of short platforms, passengers for Raynes Park, Wimbledon and Clapham Junction should join the front 8 carriages only." That's not right, is it?

Are the stop boards colour coded?

They are in places but not at Epsom.Think they look roughly the same there.

A passenger mentioned it at Guildford and also about a confusing announcement there meaning everyone was confused except me.I had got out and hadn't heard the announcement.Had to reassure the passengers they were on the right train they wanted.I think I heard the 10 car thingy somewhere but I wasn't really too fussed as I got the jist. It's not really harming anyone AFAIK.

Different trips today...Kingston before the Reading.

It seems in the evening peak the amended way of loading trains as soon as the box allocate is working and keeping levels of commuters on the concourse manageable.

What has also helped is commuters becoming aware of the international concourse and they are learning to head to those platforms for Reading/Windsor/Sheppey etc even though occasionally the box like to run services into platform 19 to free up congestion....

Our letter said that there had been 4 this week, including W2 which seems odd as the ums has been closed at Waterloo since last Saturday.

W2 was Friday before the block if memory serves. The letter was the literal last week rather than the railway Sunday to Saturday week.

Saw a possible explanation in another forum, the chap posting there thought that the underlying platform length data for the route hasn't been updated by Network Rail, so the CIS is working correctly but based on stale info.

Quick question - I've been getting the 0800 from Ewell West into Waterloo this week. On Tuesday and Wednesday, we went on the District Line via Putney out of Wimbledon, but today we were on our normal route through Earlsfield. RTT has us still going up via Putney, but not travelling that way. I don't know what Monday was like as I wasn't in work on Monday.

Would I be right in assuming that the powers that be decided that sending this train up via Putney was more trouble than it was worth and we wouldn't lose anything by going on the Earlsfield route?

Unless anyone has inside knowledge, the "powers that be" could be the signaller's whim, them accidentally not setting the route for East Putney (as the train 5 minutes ahead went via Earlsfield as booked), the signaller realising there was a gap to slot it in on the mainline as everything was running early, a London Underground train ready to leave Wimbledon or arriving in Wimbledon getting in the way (for example, one arrived at 0823 and one left at 0825 which could have got in the way of your train)... could be anything :D

A post on skyscraper city shows the rebuilt platform ends coming together and there is a view from within the station, first I've seen anywhere so far. Note how the country end of the platforms curves towards the right:

http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpost.php?p=141702622&postcount=177

Couple of questions.

When the strip foundation trenches for the new pre-fabriated walls are dug, how far down will they have gone? Presumably not all the way down to the brick arches underneath, or do they?

It looks like the very ends of P3/P4 and P5/P6 (at least) will taper to quite a narrow width, presumably if the overall site limitations require this they can still get a dispensation from group standards?

Has anyone heard if there will eventually be any canopies on these platforms, similar to the existing long platforms?

That indeed is true! Was just wondering that's all! Particularly as it was two days in the row, and the guard this morning seemed to know about it as he announced it as we were leaving Rayne's Park. (Not entirely certain why he announced it, and he seemed to do so with a certain amount of confusion, but he obviously was aware of it ahead of time!)

If gaps exist, trains are to run via mainline.

There were some issues with trains being held up by LUL services in front.

A friend commented on how nice it was to get a seat in the morning on these 10 carriage trains. He goes from Wimbledon I think.

I replied, enjoy it whilst it lasts as things will be back to normal from September. I did add that eventually there will be longer trains, just not yet.

Can't answer your technical queries but there are some more photos down the station's Twitter feed which might help: https://twitter.com/LondonWaterloo

Foundations - not very. Everything underneath the ballast is pretty solid and not going to move.

Taper - presumed correctly

Canopies - don't know, but I don't think so. Need to leave the front two carriages empty for Vauxhall passengers ;)

My first ten car to Kingston then from Up road at Hampton Wick to Down platform at Kingston.(Another first).Couldn't go into bay as ten on.
First ten car to Shepperton.
Worked out of platform 22 twice and in three times.
Worked out of platform 24 with ten car 458 down to Reading.Another first with ten cars down there.
Debut in International terminal but had worked into/out of platform 20 before it was rebuilt.

Seemed much easier to drive 458's down ther Reading road than Desiros.

Well do drive them on Weybridges and Hounslows oh and Windsors.:)

Did you do 2S42 on Tuesday by any chance? The one that pulled up just clear of the LC drive-through at ASN? Looked like a close one to me, could be wrong. Mind you the speed the motor apparently barrelled through I doubt it was on the track for long. Barriers were a right mess.

There is very little ballast below the bottom of the sleepers, foundations probably do go to the top of the arches.

The project does have a dispensation for platform widths at the country end.

There are no plans for canopies.

From a driver's point of view? What are the 458s like to drive now compared with before the conversion project?

As easy to handle as before. No difference IMHO.

No doubt Wimbledon depot is a magic maintenance depot.Does a great job on these units.(and others)
