Hi Warwickshire, any ideas when these moves will occur?
I don't. I wish I did to.
However suspect very soon.
Believe at newton Heath T.M.D for handover back to the rolling stock companies.
Unless northern have a final plan for them?.
Someone in the know from northern hopefully will.

Have the remaining 153s with Northen and EMR had PRM or PRM lite mods or are they all reaching the end if DfT PRM derogation?
TfW could really do with binning off the 230s and even 769s. If these 153s have had mods they would be a decent stop gap until their new fleet starts to enter service mid next year.

They haven’t, although I agree - still plenty of 150s on the Rhymney which could be replaced by double 153s so that they can strengthen the horrendously packed and almost always 2 car these days Pontypridd services (my local service)

Does anybody know if the Barton branch has had the 153s swapped over today, or are they the same ones as last week?
355 and 357 headed to Cleethorpes this morning to swap with 2 others coming back to Nottingham. They will swap again on Thursday.

153308 on its way upto Cleethorpes alone, imagine this will run solo on the last day of Barton line operations on Saturday?

Been suggested elsewhere that 319, 379 and 384 have already gone off lease so seems likely.

What's it called? It's called Cumbernauld

Has 308 swapped over today with the pair from Tuesday?

Also on a side note, 156410 seems to be doing the training runs in the opposite hour today. I posted in the TOPS thread to see if it was allocated for anything today.

I was told that the last East Midlands Railway Class 153 would run on Sunday 11th December 2021 on the Barton line, the fleetnumber being 153 308. Is this correct or will Class 153s be remaining with EMR?

Sadly not they do end on Saturday 11th December 2021.
Going into store very soon to long marston and ely. Mentioned further up this thread.
Also this day even though 153s remain in Wales.
Does see the end off the final br British rail era off 153 in service ie that can still run around in service ie discharging on track and also non prm modification either ie in its original form and design since 1994 when they became single units from the class 155. Also running on a branch line and not only that with old semaphore signalling and Manual gate crossing in the goxhill to Barton on humber areas.
Another era off the good old br tradition ends.

So wait I don't understand. Is EMR running their last 153 tomorrow or not?

Yes today Saturday 11th December 2021.
Is the last day.
Dispensation runs out also as clearly stated on it.
Al'so 156 from Monday 13th December 2021.
Fully worked by emr traincrewe at Lincoln.
Up until now it was previously a northern rail 153. And last couple years or so a emr 153.
Ever since the split up from first round off privatisation ie arriva trains northern 2002 era. When cleethorpes transpennie Depot was set up due to obvious reasons for first and last trains and transpennie Express took over south transpennie services. Doncaster Depot lost the work.
However transpennie Express Depot crewe at cleethorpes signed 153s for the Barton on humber branch on contract for northern and emr contracted run on behalf of services ever since.
153s have been the mainstay and also been on the branch ever since British rail days from 1994 when they became single cars. Under regional railways north east.

153308 on its own today - the last round trip is Bertie though so last chance to ride is 2F96 arrive Cleethorpes 2058 and then the unit goes ECS to Nottingham.

Looks like 2F92 was the last one for 308 today. Showing as 43 late at Grimsby platform 3. The rest of the Barton services are now cancelled according to the EMR website.

Rumour has it that the 1550 from Barton was to be the last due to crewing difficulties. However, it "expired" at Great Coates and has now limped into the bay platform at Grimsby Town

Interesting… The guard on the earlier round trip (ex Cleethorpes at 1254) said it should have been crewed up to 2F96 then bus for the last one. Mind you, if 308 burst it was all but academic. It just means I actually travelled on the last complete round trip - 308 seemed OK but rather slow accelerating during that one.

Given there is a shortage of adequate rolling stock at EMR and Northern, why isn't the DfT allowing the use of class 153 so long as they only operate connected to PRM compliant class 156.
Overcrowded 2-car units could be operated as 3-car with the coupling of these spare 153 units.

153307, 153328, 153331 will move on Friday 17th Dec as 5L46 11:00 Newton Heath to Ely.

It is also hoped that 153324, 153359 & 153360 will also move circa 08:30 from Newton Heath to Long Marston, although no path's have been booked yet.

153330, 153332, 153358 & 153363 are hopefully being moved on 21/12 from Newton Heath but again, no confirmation yet.
