Hi all,

It is with great pleasure that I can announce the release of three cab add-on packages. These packages contain a band new cab which is fully animated, along with the panel2.cfg, and are all designed to be used with the Class 170.

The cab packs available are the Class 168/1, 168/2 and 171. All have been created by Steve Thomas (author of the Class 390 Pendolino). All three are based around the original Class 170 cab by Miles Codrington, however all have been significantly redrawn with photographic reference.

To download please visit www.bveroutes-trains.co.uk/trains . Install instructions are in the install .exe file, so please read them before installing.

These releases now provide a few more trains which can be used in those routes which previously didn’t have much BVE4 traction. For example, the Southeastern v2 now has a Class 171, and Maplestead and Clarendon for BVE4 now has the Class 168/1 and 168/2.

On behalf of Steve, enjoy!

very nice rich. Can I make a suggestion for your trains page. Why not divide the one page into one Mainline page and London Underground page. I think it may be easier for a lot of people

Looks good. Do they all have similar cabs in real life? I'd guess that the 170/171 would, as they only have different couplings I believe.

Whilst this is a great idea, what happens when someone new to BVE comes along and sees these cabs and downloads them, only to find that the 170 that is needed to run them is no longer available?

After early beta testing the Cl168/1 I can tell you it hasn't really changed much. Me and Steve were working on some sounds before a big shuffle around and I was kicked out from helping with the train I hear passing me everyday :D Great eh! Anyway, I do think that the train look half decent and some effort has been put into them, But I think what really spoils it is the sounds which make a train - a train. For example on the 171 the Guard-Driver buzzer is completely different, On the 168's the open door is completely different..And overall I do think that the cabs could of had a general bit of a tidy up - But like I say the TSC team don't want to see me ever again :D Nice eh!

I may have a play around with them now and then.

Otherwise well done.

The 170 will be available again, Zane is working on it. Plus, people can pass the current 170 around...

I suppose many of you know anyway, but the Class 170 is no longer available on Trainsimcentral, despite the link from the BVE Routes & Trains web page. Can anyone oblige, please?

Yes, appologies for that. The 170 is the closest to the three cabs released, so unless you can get someone to send you the 170 in private, there is nothing I can do.

Sorry again!

Just a note - I'd rather people weren't discussing distributing withdrawn material on the forum. Mainly so we don't get any copyright complaints....

Hi Richard, Happy New year,
I can't get either of the trains to load up. BVE starts loading but after a short while the bright blue BVE screen comes up and just hangs there! Any ideas? I have edited the 168-2 into the Woodville-Willowbridge Sdg route file and the 171 train into the 170 route file in the Edinburgh-Aberdeen route. I have edited the trains into the files in my usual way and which usually works first time.

Cheers.

Thanks for your reply Richard. Thanks also to Mbonwick. I re-downloaded all the train files plus the sound files that you mention but still get the same result.

My usual way out of resolving probems with BVE is to run the Execute programme in 'Repair' mode but this hasn't resolved anything.

I next tried editing the 171 into another train file but in this case the edited file didn't even start to load any files but stuck on the opening blue BVE screen. I do feel that this may have something to do with the graphics but don't understand why as I don't know what the author(s) have done that is different with the 171 and 186 trains and the previous trains!

Cheers.

Here is the line where the edited files fail. I grabbed this image just before BVE went into the bright blue BVE screen and hangs up!

I don't know if this helps but after the latest try to load in the edited 171 file I found this error message in the background when closing down the windows!

Perhaps if I sent you a zip with a working 171 in it? And then we'd know if it was you or your computer that was the problem?

That's a great idea mbonwick. I did think of that but not as to whom to put it to at this time. Send me your email address and I will reply as soon as possible, thanks.

Cheers.

Hi mbonwick,
Thanks for sending the 171 file. It worked first time, using the same edited file that crashed, which means that it was the train file that was at error. The 171 looks good and handles well with good sounds. I ran it from Edinburgh to Kirkcaldy and managed to keep to time. The brakes are also very good and having 7 notches to the power handle makes for smooth, constant execration.

My only concern was of the low frame rate I was getting. On my first effort it was as low as 5 fps while standing at Waverley and didn't go much beyond 7 as far as Inverkeithing. I shut down the computer and did a reboot and also close down all possible programmes on the start bar. I got 7 fps at Edinburgh and got between 7 and 10 fps up to Kirkcaldy. Frame rates were into double figures in tunnels.

I don't have much time for these modern plastic & aluminium trains we have today but have to admit that I quite like the 170's. As I use them between Edinburgh and Aberdeen when going up there, they at least give a pleasant ride as well as having plenty of space and execration. The 171 appears to be of a very similar design so shan't mind having those if they are used on that route. I also like the outside appearance and design of the 170. They at least look as if some thought had gone into the design.

Whatever, you will be pleased to know that the train file worked. Is there any chance of having a copy of the 168 trains, thanks?

By the way! Should I be able to reduce the size of the cab? I can reduce most trains (cabs) using the correct key presses, but it doesn't work with the 171.

Here is a screen grab showing the 171 at Waverley, plus the low 7 fps.

Once again many thanks for your help.

Cheers.
