A quick question here:

Were the second batch of 317s built in 1985 more mechanically knackered than the first original batch built in 1981, or was this not to be the case?
I’m sure it came down to them being due for overhauls or something like that

thanks for the update... goodbye old friends
317504 sticks in my mind because it ran around for a whole day with quite a serious air leak on the south end driving trailer. Completed the day without problem but I heard the drivers talking about it when they handed over. It sounded like a water jet rail head treatment train.

Only 27 units received PRM modifications and none were from the second build.
Thank you, I'd been wondering why they chose units from the earlier batch. If only I had thought to count the number of units given the mods, it would have made more sense.

They chose the units from the earlier batch because these had been more recently overhauled than the second batch.

Confirmed only 37884 with 317511 at Coleshill Parkway approx 18 minutes late and called to allow on a member of ROG train crew, good to see a 317 call at a station and stop, in the west midlands area, once more, most likely the final time, but not so in such unfortunate life ending situation, far far from the times of their very early days in the late 80s before the 321s took over. Another end of a era, also as far as we know?. However 37884 with 317511 on the 5Q69 0859 Ely mlf Papworth to Kingsbury.
Emr scrap metal sidings.

Any idea why the last three seem to be hanging around after that flurry of scrap moves a couple of months back?

My records have this as having moved to The Depot in Caxton, near Cambridge?
It subsequently moved to Oracle. Details here

Eastleigh this time though, usually it's Newport. This could mean one of two things: scrap, as Raxstar are now done with the 313s, or further use such as conversion to barrier vehicles, as per the ex 508 carriages done at Eastleigh a few years back.
