thanks for the update... goodbye old friends502 + 504 en-route to Kingsbury for the chop.
Tbh I’m surprised they’re not headed to the usual location of Sims Metals Newport, guess they must be busy chopping up other stock

I’m sure it came down to them being due for overhauls or something like thatA quick question here:
Were the second batch of 317s built in 1985 more mechanically knackered than the first original batch built in 1981, or was this not to be the case?

Only 27 units received PRM modifications and none were from the second build.I’m sure it came down to them being due for overhauls or something like that
317504 sticks in my mind because it ran around for a whole day with quite a serious air leak on the south end driving trailer. Completed the day without problem but I heard the drivers talking about it when they handed over. It sounded like a water jet rail head treatment train.thanks for the update... goodbye old friends
Thank you, I'd been wondering why they chose units from the earlier batch. If only I had thought to count the number of units given the mods, it would have made more sense.Only 27 units received PRM modifications and none were from the second build.
They chose the units from the earlier batch because these had been more recently overhauled than the second batch.Thank you, I'd been wondering why they chose units from the earlier batch. If only I had thought to count the number of units given the mods, it would have made more sense.

Unidentified Mk3 derived EMU coach at Oracle Parkway, Reading
I noticed that Oracle at Thames Valley Park, Reading have a new addition to their site in the form of an old BR Mk3 EMU coach, and they've also constructed a new 'platform' with canopy next to it. Seems to be a novelty meeting space. It's not physically connected to the railway in any way...www.railforums.co.uk
