The ETCS west of here has apparently been deferred so the transition will presumably be CBTC to conventional TPWS operation which is less risky ?
There's still the need for ETCS from Airport Junction into Heathrow though, that section doesn't have TPWS. That is why the 360s are still intended as a temporary fallback. ETCS will have to be made to work at some stage.

Very true , but I gather that the tricky bit is changing automatically from CBTC to ETCS or vice versa on the fly so that is not needed just yet. The problem on the Heathrow line is quite different, possibly interference between ETCS and GW APT ? This needs sorting out promptly ! Incidentally when are the new implementation dates for ETCS on the GWML ?

345024 was sat in Stafford for at least an hour earlier, not sure on the headcode though, RTT confuses me sometimes.

This unit has now been delivered to OOC, currently there are 345020, 345022, 345023, 345024, 345029. 022 is currently a 7 car after donating its 2 MS3 vehicles to 001 for testing.

345 028 was at Central Rivers today. 345s are having gearbox mods there apparently.

My understanding is that someone had put a scotch under one of the wheels which wasn’t spotted as it was under one of the platforms. The unit was either going in service or on trial and derailed when moving off.

Just saw a class 345 going through hayes , I was on a bus and it looked like it had come from airport junction. It's front lights were on but then went off.

Two trips up to Liverpool Street today & they seem to be starting to take hold as most units ive been passing. I'd say around 60-70% where formed of 345s.

I must have visited Liverpool Street at the wrong time yesterday as only 1 of the 8 services was a 345

That's about as many as there'll be until the full Shenfield - Paddington service starts next year, the number of 7-car 345s isn't sufficient to replace more than 60% of the 315s.

So far on the eastern branch I've seen 005, 006, 007, 009, 010, 011, 015, 016 and 017 – so there are a lot of them out there. Might be a couple I've not seen – so that's at least enough to replace about 50% of the services.

005-017 inclusive, but from what I can gather, that's all there will be. All subsequent units will be delivered as 9-car and therefore can't operate the regular TfL Rail services into Liverpool St.

345003 and 345004 are both 7 car at the moment. 003 is being tested on GWR, 004 appears to have moved to Old Dalby. I assume these are intended for Ilford for a while.

The next 7 car to join the fleet at Ilford will be 345022 I believe which is currently at OOC.

That will make 16 x 7 car units, which, according to my rough calculations means that around 10 x 315s will survive on TfL Rail until the Shenfield services use the tunnel. They'll possibly hang on for a while on the Liverpool Street - Shenfield services after then while those 16 Aventras have their extra cars added. All guesswork though.

Is there anything stopping the 315s going through the core (ECS obviously) once it's opened and it's time to send them on their way to the breakers?

The signalling system of the core is incompatible with class 315s . I guess it could be towed by a class 345 or it could be sent through the core under some kind of posession rules.

I very much doubt they'll be cleared to operate under their own power. In any case, Booths of Rotherham will be the likely destination, by rail that would mean the ECML via Doncaster.

"TfL orders five more Elizabeth Line trains in £70m Bombardier deal"

“The additional trains will allow us to serve all the terminals at Heathrow and provide an increased frequency when the line is fully open in December 2019.”

Is this just providing the 20tph off-peak service, or the extra 2tph Heathrows, or is this some other increased frequency I don't know about?
