There are two particular issues with the PIS which I gather are down to the limits of the technology:

- Short platforms. If platforms are of differing lengths it can only play safe and assume the shortest one. So at Sydenham the up platform is 8 and the down is 10 but it will still announce 8 on the down. Which is rather irritating because when people think it's wrong there they may not trust it elsewhere when it is right eg only 7 cars open doors at West Norwood up platform.

- Caterham and Tattenham. What a pickle! Some of the platforms are only 5 cars long on these branches; a 377 will use SDO but there is no SDO on 455s. Hence the back unit on an 8 car 455 must be locked out from Purley because to run it with only the front coach of the back unit available would violate fire regs due to lack of exits. But the CIS does not know which stock is coming so it plays safe and announces front 4 cars only so that passengers don't stand trying to open doors on the back 4 locked out coaches on an 8 car 455. Confused? At least with the 700s on Tattenham this problem will go.

It's because they've changed it.

After the first change, after the /6's were introduced, it said, 'Welcome aboard blah blah' as normal, then "This train is..... The next station.... Would customers...." There would also be a similar approching announcement. Now, they've added the next station announcement on the end of the first one, so the short platform notice is no longer played at the end. They have to add this later, but it doesn't include station details. Why did they even bother changing the original thing to begin with?:lol: No one really gives a monkeys about announcements anyway, unless its to do with short platforms, which have now been made more confusing.

Worked fine when we first had 377s.. :D Then they wanted written adverts and so on.. ballsed it all up :o
