Does look good this way round, but with green doors and seats it will be a bit of a weird combo.

But tourists won't care and spotters will now have something to look out for. So win win overall!

so, a unit with Southern moquette and Southern green doors that has been used on Thameslink and Great Northern goes to Gatwick Express, making Southern the only part of TSGN it won't have worked a service for, technically?

Well... it probably will. In the evening there's a few SN services that run with GX stock.
Oddly there is also a AM GX that runs with a 4Car SN 377...

Sounds about right!

Bizarre that the doors are staying green. Bizarre really why they hadn't changed when they went to GN.

If does find its way on to an SN service, that will make it the first unit to serve all four brands of TSGN yes?

This comment made me laugh.

Could they not put red vinyl over the doors at least?
Considering all we got on GN was a little logo on the side, Gatwick should count themselves lucky they've got as much as they have...! That stripe and massive logo will have cost many pennies more!

With the fact that the livery is already nonstandard having white as its base and not red and the doors being green, would it not have made more sense to do the GX vinyls in green?

Green isn't part of the Gatwick Express brand identity.

A even cheaper method would have been to have paper labels stating it was a GX service much like Southern did when they hired in LM Class 350s a few years ago...

Still it depends on how long it's on loan for because if it's for a short period of time then there's no point in having any GX branding.

Yeah this looks rather medium/long-term, otherwise they wouldn't have bothered with that partial rebranding.

Excuse me if this is a rather silly comment but does the fact that they haven't fully liveried the units and left the doors green suggest they might want to be able to remove the red strips and add a southern logo in the visible future or at least have that flexibility. Although this is GTR, did they just make a half hearted effort to try and confuse tourists slightly less.

They were used on tl services due to the 700s running late to free up 319s then moved to GN rather than the proposed 377/5s which were also a stop gap with southern interiors! 377/5s now found at southeastern
They have a southern spec just like the small c2c 387 fleet as it was unknown where their future lay

Comes down to money. Seeing as everything is dictated by a bod at the DfT for GTR. They might bkt have authorised to cost of vinyl for the doors. Branding yes as its needed for identity of a long term loan unit. But the doors wouldn't have been deemed necessary .

find it odd that they deem it essential to stick GX over the unit in red...but not bother the with doors.... Odd..

Big deal, have Northern reliveried the loaned TPE Class 185s? I doubt it so why bother doing the same with a Class 387 on loan to GX when it's only for a short to medium term.

Doesn't the hired in TPE 185s change daily?

No idea but does it really matter if the hired in unit has GX livery or not? Just put a paper insert advising it's on loan to GX on a temporary basis and you're sorted.

Simples
