Had a wander round wabtec on Sunday. Work has started on 8007, which is in 4 bits, all still white at the mo! One power car of 8028 is still white but work has started on the front end etc on it. 14 and 17 seem to be nearly complete, with 14 looking almost ready to go for fitting of seats etc. Bit hard to tell what coach belonged to which set as some were missing external numbers etc!

Thanks, I assume it's parked at Wombledon rather than still being in Clapham Yard?
It's at Bournemouth with another (or is heading there soon). They will start overhauling the underneaths of the 458/5s soon, and these are there guinea pigs I am told.

Will they get tested between Bournemouth and Weymouth once the work on them is done?

No. The 106 mile run back to Wimbledon is sufficient. The unit has a return to service exam and then it's back out in the road
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
Can anyone confirm the 5th car in 458513 please?

74437. All things being equal 8514 should have 74407 as the pattern so far is to use up all the 460 vehicles in a sequence.

The vehicles from 01 went into 8502/01/03/30/20
Then the vehicles from 05 went into 8505/10/11
Then the vehicles from 02 went into 8524/25/27/18/26/09
Then the vehicles from 03 went into 8519/29/08
Then the vehicles from 04 went into 8515/22/23
And now 07 has provided vehicles for 8512/13 with 74407 left.

That leaves 3 vehicles from 06 and 08 each to allocate........

513+515 on testing duties today heading towards Reading in quite close proximity to a service train.

All nice clean fresh bogies and sparking paintwork too, very swish.

Looks like there was a couple more class 458/5's on test on the route towards Reading. Unfortunately I did not get any numbers, but I did see them go past the office I work in just which is just past Bracknell station.

Two coaches of 458016 (I think) were passing through Merton on low loaders yesterday evening. Presumably on their way to Doncaster.

With the timetable change today there are in theory now 32 458/5 diagrams on Weekdays (21 Saturdays, 14 Sundays), obviously they won't all be formed of 458/5s for a while yet though. The vast majority of Waterloo-Windsor and services via Hounslow are booked 458/5s now. The following is a list of services which aren't. Obviously be aware that extra services won't be 458/5s until the full fleet is in service.

Monday-Friday
2R15 0843 Waterloo-Waterloo via Richmond and Hounslow (8-455)
2R17 0915 Waterloo-Waterloo via Richmond and Hounslow (8-455)
2S21 0922 Waterloo-Weybridge (8-450)
2V25 1107 Waterloo-Waterloo via Hounslow and Richmond (8-450)
2V31 1237 Waterloo-Waterloo via Hounslow and Richmond (8-450)
2R31 1245 Waterloo-Waterloo via Richmond and Hounslow (8-450)
2S39 1352 Waterloo-Weybridge (8-450)
2R37 1415 Waterloo-Waterloo via Richmond and Hounslow (8-450)
2S41 1422 Waterloo-Weybridge (8-450)
2S47 1552 Waterloo-Weybridge (8-450)
2R55 1845 Waterloo-Waterloo via Richmond and Hounslow (8-455)

2S30 1103 Weybridge-Waterloo (8-450)
2S48 1533 Weybridge-Waterloo (8-450)
2S50 1603 Weybridge-Waterloo (8-450)
2S56 1737 Weybridge-Waterloo (8-450)
2S72 2133 Weybridge-Waterloo (8-450)

Saturdays
2U04 0458 Staines-Waterloo (8-450)
2U14 0723 Windsor-Waterloo (8-450)

Thinking back to the discussion a few weeks ago about utilisation, that eventual intended 32 from 36 is a good value at about 89%, I recall we thought the typical 458/0 utilisation was only 24 from 30. So if it works out long term they've effectively got 8 more units daily for the price of 6? :D

Typical 458/0 utilisation was 24 from 30 but they wanted 27 from 30 from the 2007 timetable change so we will have to see whether 32 from 36 is workable.

There are a number of Weybridge services that will remain 450 due to Basingstoke crews not signing 458s

I got 458513+458523 (both winners :D) yesterday 14 Dec on the 2S52 1633 Weybridge to London Waterloo. It got delayed from Virginia Water onwards due to a delayed ex-Reading service, and being 7 late by Clapham Junction only narrowly avoided getting overtaken by the below. We did however go Queenstown Road > Windsor Reversible to stop at P1 at Vauxhall :D (think I've had that before though ;)).
458508+458512 were on the 2V47 1637 London Waterloo to London Waterloo

So at least two new units freshly into service. Shame about the delays on the Main Lines and near Reading that messed things up on the first weekday of the new timetable.

As expected, 10 cars (instead of 455 8 cars) were on the 2V49 1707 London Waterloo to London Waterloo and 2H97 1843 London Waterloo to Shepperton, with their previous 455 8 cars instead used on 2R55 1845 London Waterloo to London Waterloo. This is the only service for this set in the evening.
However, today it crossed to the Up Main Fast after Queenstown Road to stop on P5 at Vauxhall, and then over to the Up Main Slow to arrive P1 at Waterloo, in order to cover for a cancellation on the suburbans.

What's the current guesstimate as to when all the 458/5s will be in service (excluding the three that are out of service awaiting repairs)?
