Class 730 LNR & WMR Delivery/test Updates

These test trains are cancelled this week.

730001 and 010 will move Oxley to Bletchley tomorrow with 011 and 012 moving down on Thursday.

If the above moves happen, how many units will still be at Oxley.

730004 is still with Alstom and they are using it to carry out various tests.

Does a 5 car 730 with 2+2 seating have more capacity than a 4 car 350/2 with 3+2 seating? If all 730s are going to have 2+2 seating will there be no difference between a 730/1 and a 730/2?

I'd not base it on absolute seat numbers as on the WCML the middle seat often goes unused with people preferring to stand.

From a post up thread last week. Although 011 eventually came on its own (leaving behind 012) I do believe 001 did move with 010 on Wednesday (28/09/2022).

I’m sure the local, er, artists would love it if anything is stabled at Camden. Shelving the idea seems eminently sensible.

plain white 319s were dumped there for months earlier this year, don’t believe they were sprayed. As an LNR facility security is in their gift as well.

Well, the first one has not even started Mobile testing yet. It is still at Aycliffe doing static testing.

Only 805001 and 805003 complete as units (no internal fitting, seats etc), 805001 due to move within next month to Old Dalby for testing.

It will be many months before Oxley receives one.

I was meaning 730s but interesting to see how far behind the 805s appear to be.
I reckon there are around 500 new units due by the end of 2024 but I can’t see that happening tho’ I suspect 150+ built but not yet in service.
Then there’s the Western 769s never mind the 30 379s in store and the 37 decent 350s due to come off lease as well as 221/222s due to be replaced.
Post covid, do we need them all?

001 and 010 have received some modifications and will be out on test tonight and tomorrow, possibly Wednesday too on the southern end of the WMCL.

002/6/7 have all been accepted by WMR...location unknown, 003 and 004 are still with Alstom, 004 has been out on test on the WCML, 003 is at Old Dalby I think.

37510 hauled 730003 from Old Dalby to the former Brush work at Loughborough on Tuesday amd RTT suggests a second set went yesterday, anyone know what that's for please?

Modern Railways are reporting (as a postscript to a Class 196 article) that the Class 730 order is being modified, with a greater proportion of 3-car units. Will be interesting to see how LNWR will utilise this altered fleet.

WMT has also ordered Class 730 Aventra EMUs from Alstom. This order has changed from the original plan for 36x3-car and 45x5-car units, and now comprises 48x3-car and 36x5-car units. Three-car units will enter service first, initially on services out of Euston, before they are introduced in the West Midlands area from late 2023.
