Ah thanks, I did wonder - non-passenger Class 2s are a new one on me.
Normally anything with a Q in headcode is some sort of test/mileage train.

Thanks a lot for that, I'm used to seeing 3Qxx for test/mileage trains but now I know that they can be 2Qxx.
3Q are normally the yellow Network Rail test trains.
Supposedly Crewe - Euston. Dates are still up in the air, been told December but also late Summer. Hopefully find out something concrete soon.

If it's worth anything, the latest issue (March 2025) of Modern Railways states May. But you're far more in the know than I.
I'm not so sure of that! I can only go off internal updates, passing conversations with exec team and training schedules which constantly change. Others may know far more than me unfortunately

There's one on its way to Rugby with no obvious return journey, so maybe it's going to be stabled at Rugby for a bit.
Interestingly, RTT shows it as
"Pathed as Class 730 EMU
Planned for 110mph max"
whereas most of the regular 730 test runs are pathed as Class 350.

I just remembered somewhere it was stated that a 730 is kept at Rugby to retain rights to the siding.
Could this be a thing ?.
Or is it just somewhere to keep the 730s while they wait for use ?.

Does anyone know if LNWR have options to purchase further 730s if they decide to run extra WCML services once HS2 opens, or would that need different stock? Happy to open a new thread if it's not just a yes/no answer!
No they don’t. It wouldnt be them deciding to run extra services.

Given there is a unit known for it I feel it still has a chance.
The 5Q68 for a 720 from Derby due into Willesden the same time looks less likely.
