...and back in September 1984 I had an 85 from Crewe to Glasgow Central on a Sleeper service and yes they did have the Mk3s by then.

I think mine may have been the day of the Ripple Lane Open Day in October 87 when that Hurricane marched through the country. It may have been a different trip though.

06/06/1988 I had 85031 Glasgow - Carlisle on a sleeper. Mk1s were long gone by then.

...which at first was making the usual ticking noise that many locos make when switched off (what is that)...

The spirax valve. Usually ticks away for a good while after the loco is shut down.

Just seen a vid of 97002 one week ago (21st Feb) - still looked like it was in BR Blue rather than Sleeper blue. Anyone know when it's being repainted?

It (that is 87002) moved to Loughborough brush for repaint into sleeper livery on 19th Feb IIRC

Yes! Typo there.

Oh okay, probably the wrong date on the vid then? :)

EDIT: This is apparently 26th feb. Can't tell if it's been repainted, but if so it's kept all the BR logos...

Haha. Doesn't surprise me lol. Midnight Teal does sound like a wool colour my Granny Mary knitted with.
