Have you watched the NHK video on microdroplets I posted above yet?The sense I meant to convey was "a beneficial effect produced by a placebo drug or treatment, which cannot be attributed to the properties of the placebo itself, and must therefore be due to the patient's belief in that treatment". In most circumstances this is what I think the public wearing masks would achieve, i.e. a belief that they are doing some good, despite that they have no effect.
