Anyone know what damage has occurred at/near Crewe that's causing problems this afternoon ?
If its Platform one that is affected, it can only be the points for the EMU stabling siding, the connection from the Up Manchester or the connection from the Up slow. Intrigued as to what has happened.
ATW can't use P1 at Crewe as there is no route to/from the Shrewsbury line.
Points run through apparently. Affects Crewe to Manchester (and return) services.
Pardon my ignorance, but could you explain exactly what you have in mind by "points run through"?
Of course they can - there is nothing stopping one TOC asking another TOC to help them out. The question that needs asking is what would the impact be of an additional stop to the rest of ATW's services and other connections?I'm not even sure if they can ask for such a service??
Instead of running a bus why can't the Arriva service stop at Sandbach to connect with the stopping Northern service, or is that too complicated for todays disjointed railway where doing things for the convenince of passengers seems to an absolute no-go.
Clearly Northern felt it was easier and less disruptive to ATW to go with the bus option! Or maybe the did ask ATW and ATW thought that the impact of an additional stop was too much?
Not sure what would have been gained from stopping ATW trains at Sandbach. Would only have been of benefit for passengers to Sandbach, Holmes Chapel, Goostrey, Chelford and Alderley Edge from Crewe - who, in my experience, are not numerous!
The downside - of adding 2 or 3 minutes to the ATW trains - might have been more significant given the issues of threading them through Cheadle Hulme!
