Eventhough I'm an Englishman, I was shocked to hear of Rod Marsh's resignation. I wonder who will replace him and how many others will follow, especially those who haven't performed well in the team.

Looks like another good first day batting wicket at Visakhapatnam. The dog was a highlight. Getting Kohli out cheaply tomorrow is probably going to be key as well as seeing if Ashwin commits batting suicide again.. Anything below 500 will keep England happy. Too many one bad ball per over occurrences for my liking as the pitch allows them to be punished. Will be intersting to see how Hameed and Root tackle it.

India finished day one of the second Test Match at 317-4, after being 22-2 at one stage. Kohli with 151 not out and Pujara with 119 certainly turned matters around.

Anderson, on his return to the test squad, had figures of 16-3-44-3

All-out before lunch and England have a chance. Failling that it's a long struggle towards a draw, to that end Hameed should feel at home having to do that all season for The Mighty!!

Day two saw India extend their overnight total of 317-4 to 455 all out. Kohli took his score to 167 and Ashwin scored 58. Moeen with 3-92 and Rashid with 2-110 took the late-order wickets.

Close of play saw England 103-5. Cook (2), Duckett (5) and Moeen(1) all out for single figure scores. When the score was 51-1, Hameed was run out by J.Yadav and only Root with 53 made any sort of score before falling.

England went from being 72-2 to 80-5 at one stage.....

Hameed - if the Indians can't get him out, at last his own players can!

Not seen the incident, but I read Root was at fault. Anyone see it?

Root calls for second run.. Changes his mind halfway down and runs Hameed out..

Day three of the Test Match saw England all out for 255, a deficit of 200 runs.
Stokes with 70 and Bairstow with 53 at least helped that total to be reached. The bowling of Ashwin was a reason why a better total was not reached, finishing with 5-67.

In their second innings, all the top three India batsmen fell cheaply,, but a recovery from 40-3 was made to the close of play score of 98-3, helped in no small manner by Kohli with 56 not out.

Day 4 of the Test Match saw India losing their last seven wickets in their second innings during the day at a much lower run rate per wicket than in their first innings and were all out for 204 with only Kohli with 81 making any real mark. Broad with 4-33 and Rashid with 4-82 were the major wicket-takers.

England lost both Cook and Hameed in reaching 87-2 in their second innings and go into the fifth and final day still needing a further 318 runs to win the Test Match. The ball that saw Hameed lbw was one that really kept very low.

Indeed, Boycott always made sure the poor batsman at the other end got run out, the exception being in New Zealand, whereby Botham was sent in to run out Boycott, because they weren't scoring quickly enough and had a good chance of winning. Botham couldn't stop laughing at running him out.

Renshaw is said to be a proper old fashioned opening batsman

Like Cyril Washbrook of Lancashire fame.

The morning session of day 5 of the Test Match was an utter debacle as England lost no less than 5 wickets in the session and at lunch, were 142-7

Batsmen out before lunch:-
Root 25
Duckett 0
Moeen 2
Stokes 6
Rashid 4

After lunch, Indía soon wrapped up the last three batsmen to leave England 158 all out.

India win by 246 runs.

Jimmy Anderson, in that last test, got a 'king pair'. It was only England's fourth such instance, and the first since 1906! They also represented his 20th and 21st test ducks, the latter setting a new England record. To think Jimmy also holds the record for most innings before recording his first duck = 54.

The Day/Night test is underway at the Adelaide oval.
SA won the toss and decided to have a bat first. Australia were on top until the last session when our bowlers had a brain fade and bowled all over the place.

SA 9dec/259.
Du Plessis 118*
Hazelwood 4/68.

Du Plessis was making no friends with him declaring with Warner off the field. As a result Warner couldn't open.

AUS: 0/14
Khawaja 3
Renshaw 8.

For once the batsmen decided to value thier wickets. Renshaw in particular started out very well.

But the last wicket could have fallen straightaway and Warner would still have been unable to open, so it was hardly a big deal. Oh, yes, the Aussies are 2-0 down, so any excuse...

Are we expecting Ben Duckett to be replaced by Jos Buttler and Stuart Broad replaced by either Steven Finn or Jake Ball, no doubt that Chris Woakes won't be fit.

Buttler definitely. I hope Ansari is dropped too. Ball deserves another chance at test level, which is perhaps more than can be said for Finn.

I agree that Ansari should be dropped, he hasn't bowled as well as expected.

I regret his bowling was just what I did expect - a shame, because he seems a nice lad. Scyld Berry, Telegraph chief cricket reporter, interviewed Chris Rogers at the end of last season on his retirement and asked him about his county colleague Jack Lynch, slow left arm bowler. Rogers thought he was not yet the finished article, to which Berry appended his own observation that he was more of a finished article than at least one of the spinners England were taking to Bangladesh!
