Is anyone on this? Looking forward to a day out on the Cornish freight branches, just gotta get six GCSEs out of the way first!

Also, does anyone know when the confirmed timings will be available?

Many thanks.

Yes i'm on this tour, really looking forward to it. I'm staying just up the road from Exeter St Davids and going down on a Freedom Of The South West 3 in 7, so I can do a bit of bashing here and there.

My outward plan is

Stoke-Birmingham - Cardiff Central - Swindon - Bath Spa - Bristol (if poss) - Westbury - Exeter St Davids

with some bashing on the the Saturday Night round Exeter after the tour.

On Sunday I will do some hopping around before clearing Trowbridge-Chippenham via Melksham on the 1710 Ex Westbury and returning home via Kemble,Gloucester and Stafford arriving into Stoke at 2156.

There was another thread about the tour here Curnow Irruptor

Confirmed timings I would imagine will be made available when tickets are sent out.
Certainly from there website 7-10 days before seems to be the norm for timings.

Yep - I'm on it from Tamebridge right the way through. Do we get off anywhere? 16+ hours on a train, wow not done that since the MK1 sleepers being pulled by steam!!

Sorry but Birmingham New Street has been abbreviated to BNS by people since well before you were born and the 3 letter (many illogical) codes were made up!

I normally use the three letter codes in case people do wanna search for the station but BNS is one I always type in accidently for New Street

5 days to go to the tour and still no times.
For those of us joining from the GWML then its a real problem as the first train from Reading etc does not get to Bristol Parkway until AFTER the estimated time of departure so no train tickets purchased for that journey so far by me.
I have been on many Pathfinder tours before without a problem but when I contacted them about 5 weeks ago to merely suggest that it would be good if the timings could be worked out to meet with the first Paddington train then I got a poorly worded, mis-spelt and curt response.
This may be my last Pathfinder tour as a result. If you're not happy then you don't give the support.

For the prices they charge they could at least do a quick spellcheck with their correspondance

Too right! On the first and last Pathfinder tour I went on a few years ago, I found the majority of staff, and indeed passengers, particularly rude and arrogant.

According to NRES the first train from Reading gets to Parkway well after this train departs so how late did you want them to retime the train?

Now if you had asked for a few minutes extra at Temple Meads I might have understood but it appears that there is a nil connection time now.

I have been on a few Pathfinders and never had any real problems so despite the prices they charge I will go with them again as long as its something I want to do and I can get there.

I have just managed to book a rather late ticket for this tour, (still full price unfortunately), starting and returning to Exeter St. Davids. I have been provisionally told over the phone that the train will leave ExD at 09:35, so adjusting the other pick-up times given on the website should help you to work out your pick-up time.

This is of course an extreme generalisation, but should help give a slightly better idea of the timings until they are officially posted!

Thanks to FerryRoadHawk216 of SWRG.

As can be seen the Freight branches are being negotiated in a different order to advertised.

Gawd, I should have known that you'd have the required information at your fingertips, Louis! Thanks very much, that is extremely useful! :D

Ticket came today. The details are reporduced below and, just in case, I acknowledge the fact that they are published by Pathfinder Toursand hopefully they have granted their permission for them to be shared.
Tame Bridge Parkway 05:40 return 23:25
Bristol Parkway 07:50 Return21:15
Details have changed a little in that the Alphington Road branch is now done on the return journey and last before the Exeter drop.
Its Exeter pick up at 09:35 and return at 19:10

No GWML train connects with this either at Cheltenham or the Bristol stations. Even the first train from Reading misses the Exeter connection by 9 minutes.

It goes without saying that had I anticipated this I would have given the trip a miss being an exponant of rail travel wherever I can.
Anybody need a lift from Didcot along the M4 at some ungodly hour? I might nip round the back of Stoke Gifford first and have a nosy whats in the shed

Originally the estimated time was 08:20 and the first train gets there at 08:38 so not that a great difference is it?

Well from what I have seen whatever the estimated times they nearly always end up earlier so with an 18 minutes negative connection I would not have booked on a tour if I wanted to connect by train.

It was a good tour yesterday - evrything was done as louis97 listed above, apart from we went into the sidings at Goonbarrow, not just the junction. The leg stretches at newton Abbot and Plymouth (twice) were most welcome bearing in mind that it was an 18-hour round tour!

Engines:
Leading (from BHM) - 37087 and 37194
Rear - 66135.

There was quite a queue at the timetable racks for Cornish branch timetables too! Though, as any collector could tell you, FGW39 Falmouth-Truro can be really tricky to get. Had to run to the booking office at the second Plymouth stop to pick up FGW35 Plymouth-Penzance ;)
