I trained at didcot, I only got my contract and new starter details not long before I started, a pain isn’t it, uniform wise when I was there they had a box with some spares in, particularly trousers as guys tend to underestimate their waist sizes if you still need to exchange something they’ll sort something, we’d go to hotel on the Sunday, train Monday to Friday roughly school sort of times, 9-3/8-2 etc with an early finish on the Friday around lunchtime to allow for getting home, I’d take some stationary pens/pencils/rubbers/highlighters etc, pay is four weekly usually on a Friday so 13 pay days a year, you can claim expenses whilst at training school for mileage was 40p a mile when I was there or they’ll give you train tickets paid for, you can claim for your lunch £5 daily with a receipt get evening meal paid for upto £25 these may have gone up since last year, taxis from station to hotel etc, pretty sure you can’t take any holidays during classroom training or leave apart from in exceptional circumstances, you usually get a full week annual leave every 13 weeks with a full week rest days to follow, plus I think just short of two weeks in floating days and floating free from work days, plus obvs your normal rest days as each week goes by
This covers just about everything. Good write up mate.

My training was also at didcot. You will love it. The mentors down there are exceptional.

I will also add in regards to uniform. Order an extra size in the uniform as 10 weeks In a hotel is no good for anybody’s weight . Some of us in our group didn’t have much look with the trousers, so they allowed us to order our own and claim the expenses back too.

Keep all your receipts and try and do them weekly as it can get very messy if you leave it too long.

Also, if you have hobby, I’d suggest taking something with you, or joining a gym as you do get a lot of down time.

Good luck with everything, unknownG. Welcome to DB and welcome to the grade. Best job ever.

Anyone know which hotels you stay in at Toton or Didcot? Was thinking of looking at gyms when the course starts. Cheers

My uniform request has gone in. If i have to order stuff i will as i know a retailer that are pretty good.

Yeah reciepts got a lot of experience with expenses. Nothing worse than losing a reciept.

Its good to know there down time as i know ill go back and revise and the gym will probably end up being a second home for me

Im sure this has been asked already but doesnt anyone know uf there is any wiggle room to move depots prior to training commencing?

Toton I stayed at the village which has a pool and a gym.

Didcot I’ve stayed at Milton hill and premier inn. And I know of others that have stopped in different ones.

If at didcot there’s a gym two minutes from the depot, in a little shopping centre and they do no contract deals. Probably worth joining that.

The weight gain isn’t great! It wasn’t much for me, but I felt it!
By any chance was you in the warrington canteen Saturday morning? I was the fella that came in and dropped the keys off if you was. I probably should have said hello properly. I was taking a train back to peak.

Yes, that was me! It's not a problem! At the time I thought that you were either busy or you were going home from a night shift or something! Not to worry though! I'm sure I'll see you again! :D

Hi all, recently been invited to an interview for West Midlands hub, can anyone advise best place to get company info, routes, class of train etc. Also what kind of questions pop up for interview as I know theres a lot of difference between freight and passenger trains.

They should send you all the relevant information through that’s needed for the interview. All the other information is just on the website. They won’t be asking you about different routes and stuff.

I've already passed all my assesments mmi etc so I'm assuming it's a driver manager interview which they never sent any information over, Im guessing company and role information will be enough

The DMI is more like a normal job interview really. It’s more about you as a person and it’s for them to make sure that you as a person, despite passing all the tests, are the right kind of person to hire for them specifically. Really enjoyed my DMI to be honest.

Went really well not what I was expecting but I was told I was successful on the day, currently in the talentpool so hoping the ball gets rolling soon

Congrats, I was successful last week too.

Not what I was expecting either!

Let me know if you hear anything! When did you initially apply?
