I would consider Reading has quite a limited amount of stock considering how busy the station is. HSTs, 165/6, Vomiters and Junipers is all you'll get for passenger; 66s for freight. Occasionally a Desiro will stand in on Waterloo duties, and there's the sleeper 57s.

Never seen a 455 or 158 in the past couple of years.

You could add in 172s though :P Also there's a yellow 31 hauled NR train at Didcot often which I imagine must go through Reading regularly?

I was just being flippant, trying to think of something unusual - there was one parked up about a month ago (testing coupling with 166/165 I believe).

(Unfortunately the tongue-sticky-out smiley just looks like a slightly mad laughing smiley).

Occasionaly seen a 455 Turn up on the Reading services before - might have a picture of one somewhere but its certainly happend - wouldn't fancy a 455 that far!

158s Used to run through to Reading with SWT of course, and have occasionaly visited reading depot, and eastleigh works - wabtec - for work...

As for the freight, Reading did of course have the Colas 47s on the steel traffic before, aswell as any additional West Coast, DRS & Colas Moves...And don't forget about all the freight passing through Reading West / West Curve - That's usualy where i see everything...

And yep, one of Chilterns 172s has of course come in for compatability tests with a 166 too:)

I think he meant they 'use to'...

Used to on regular SWT Services, then of course they wen't into storage in Eastleigh Works - and did test runs between Basingstoke & Eastleigh before re-entering back into use with Southern...

(We used to get 156s and 153s but sadly not anymore)

The 156s and 153s are still booked on some turns. You can see them in the timetable due to the lack of first class.

Taking Bradford to include Shipley we have 142, 144, 150, 153, 155, 158, 180, 333, 91 and HST. Plus loads of sheds on freight, and fairly common WCRC stock moves to and from Carnforth turning up almost anything from their fleet (but recently seemingly mostly 57601). Railtours over the S&C too. Not bad variety really for a city that's a bit of a railway backwater.

Taking my hometown (York) during the time I lived in it and was a spotter/enthusiast, it was 101, 105, 108, 110, 111, 114, 141, 142, 144, 150, 155, 156, 158, 31, 37, 40, 45, 46, 47, 55, HST. The occasional 50 too going to or from Donny works on Plymouth > York relief workings. All on passenger workings. Freights saw 20, 25, 31, 37, 40, 45, 46, 47, 56.

<Sigh>

Stratford. 37's, 47's (if for some reason they have to work a Norwich diagram which is hardly ever and quite often they turn up on freight and other odd's and sod's), 59's, 66's, 70's, 86's, 90's, DVT's (if you want to count them), 170's (I know they stopped working into London in December, but that was fairly recently, so ;) ), 315's, 317's, 321's, 357's, 360's, 378's, 379's, 1992 stock, 1998 stock, all types of DLR and if you want to count Stratford International in this, you get 373's and 395's too. All in all, not bad. :)

Erdington - 12x 323s in each direction and thats absolutely it.

Same for most Cross City North stations.

How I would love to be served by 321s and 357s at my local station....

Better still, you could take just the 321s and let us have your lovely 350s! I think that's a fair trade? ;)

I was going to slightly satirically mention Oxted, but of course we're far more interesting than say Uckfield :D! And of course the occasional bluebell traffic now...

About ten years ago, 455s worked Reading services regularly on weekends.

The station itself yes, but Gatwick Airport is in Crawley is it not so surely 319/442/460 can be included in the same *town* <D

Droitwich Spa:

Passenger Services
150 - Snow Hill Line (2-3tph)
170 - B'ham New St. - Hereford via Bromsgrove (1tph off-peak; 2tph peak)
153 - Strengthing any of above two
172 - Snow Hill Line (when they arrive!)
220 - Rare diversionary service; sometimes stops
221 - Rare diversionary service; sometimes stops
HST - Very rare diversionary service; sometimes stops

Charter Trains:
33,37,40,47,50 (1-2tpm)
Steam locomotives (even rarer)

Freight Services:
66 - to/from Round Oak Steel Terminal
66 - other general freight
60 - round oak + aggregates
59 - as above

Other:
HST - Network Rail measurement train

For such a small(ish) station, it gets quite a variety when conditions are right (eg diversions). Yes I have added trains that aren't every day but I feel that charters appear often enough to be included - in Summer they can be more than once a week

221 XC
HST XC and FGW
20/37 ( occasionally on flasks )
60 Occasional on steel traffic and tanks to Westerleigh
66 Coal and steel traffic to name a few, general freight too

Very rarely 47/56/57 and 67 on charters!

The only annoying thing about droitwich is that you can go 6 miles along any line and see loads more.

Extras @ Worcester:
142,143,158,166,HST

Extras @ Kidderminster:
168

Extras @ bromsgrove
220,221,HST,60,lickey banker (whatever it may be)

However droitwich is the only place where you'll see most of them together

Aren't Bath, Leicester, and Nottingham all cities rather than towns?
Stirling was only recently granted city status
Also don't forget the Class 37, 47, 57, and 66 that also pass through Stirling

In Scotland I would go for the town of Carluke, sees just about everything that passes in and out of Scotland except Class 15x and 17x units

id say Glasgow... (not being specific as to Central or Queen street)

Class 31 (infrastructure)
Class 37 (infrastructure)
Class 43/HST
Class 57 (pendo drag at night)
Class 60 (occasionally on sleeper ECS-rare)
Class 66 (occasionaly on Sleeper ECS)
Class 67 (Sleeper ECS and occasional haulage)
Class 90
Class 91
Class 92 (Occasionally on Sleeper ECS)

Class 150 type (the NR unit ?)
Class 156
Class 158
Class 170 (Queen street)

Class 221 (Do XC still occasionally run 220s to glasgow?)

Class 314
Class 318
Class 320
Class 322
Class 334
Class 380
Class 390

plus class 86 and/or 87 on charters every 6 months or so it seems

Middlesbrough is a decent sized place, but only gets 142, 156 and 185s in normal passenger service (with an emphasis on the 142s)
