No. I sign up to Carlisle and just beyond it as far as the DB yard at Kingmoor, and the majority of the signals in that area are the old bulb style signals.
i believe its fully bulbs between Carlise and Edinburgh/Motherwell area on the WCML

IIRC didn’t the rules for mail trains say that if unexpectedly stopped out of course the police should be callled immediately?

Was wondering why the sleeper trains were late at Edinburgh. Bet there's a few unusual delay reports going in today!
Don't know what the drivers do, but if the driver sat down on the train delayed at Lockerbie, that driver may have been the one booked to work the next one north from Edinburgh

Is the train we're talking about 1S55 Warrington - Shieldmuir? RTT shows this as Kirtlebridge 01.31 and Ecclefechan 04.48. Is it a class 325 unit?

Posted whilst I was writing ;) The Scottish common law offence seems less serious, but it's likely a moot point anyway, as I can't see a substantial sentence being handed out given the age of the suspects.
In theory, if tried on indictment in the High Court, it carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment!

It's a box shape with signalling related equipment in it. Not acceptable terminology for the self-appointed forum expert but for the 99.9% of people reading the news who haven't got a clue? Seems perfectly acceptable to me.

This place can be pathetic at times when it comes to things like this.
It is right and proper to hold the BBC to account

Yes but there are battles to pick and others it's not worth the energy getting angry about. Although the terminology would conjure up an image of somebody vandalising a traditional levers and bells signalbox rather than a relay cabinet, at the end of the day it's neither here nor there as the general public aren't being sent to repair it.

I think there's still a couple of offences out there that technically carry transportation to Australia (with hard labour) as an option.....

This episode really does go to show that history does repeat itself, first time as tragedy, second time as farce.

Unfortunately it's not that pathetic, as the BBC News app normally contains punctuation, spelling, bad english and grammer errors on what seems a daily basis. And when those errors are being noticed by someone who failed their English O Level at school it really says how low the standards have fallen (and the lack of proof reading before publishing articles).

I believe this is the section.

Let’s leave the BBC “signal box” debate now. It doesn’t really add anything to last nights bizarre incident which is what we should be discussing. :)

Do the 325s have enhanced security in the cab areas? Ie stronger doors etc to protect staff?
It’s not really appropriate to discuss specific aspects of security like this online, especially given what happened this morning.

Surprised that much of value would be in Royal Mail post these days, given how many people use other parcel services.

If the answer was "yes, they have multiple alarm and defence systems" that would be an appropriate answer, otherwise we need to question why there wasn't?

They’re must’ve been special cargo onboard to attempt to rob a Royal Mail train as it would mainly be letters onboard
That has not been the case for at least a decade.
Parcels are the overwhelming majority of RM’s traffic. Letters are in massive decline as business to consumer letters are obsolete. Communication with customers are done via emails, texts or messages in the inbox of your online account.

Great Train Robbery 2.0 foiled

But it will be quite interesting to hear the story surrounding when more info comes out, as train robberies are very rare in this country.
Can't help realising the fact that it is almost the EXACT 60th Anniversary of the Infamous Buckinghamshire Raid, which was 8/8/63.....

Deleted previously post text, following above guidance.

Hopefully, the teenagers in question will get some rehabilitation, in addition to some sort of justice too.

Re: Control Log stuff. This should never be shared under any circumstances and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Network Rail tighten up access after this. Would suggest to mods that whenever a post appears to contain control log info, that it is deleted ASAP. It should never be shared outside the railway.
