has it been confirmed whether all 26 158s will be kept once the 170 fleet is complete?
There were/are plans to reform some 158s into 3 cars to allow 5 cars between Liverpool and Nottingham. If it happens they will need to keep them all. However I don't know if the plans have been approved.

170205’s now in full EMR Regional livery :D

Also I believe the 180s are stored at Chaddesden sidings. Happy to be corrected though!

Thanks.

Spotted at least 1 180 was on Etches Park on the walk at lunch in the siding that 156498 occupied for a while.

No worries!

That will be 113, I believe it hit a tree that fell onto the line and is now damaged.

It was a cow just south of Leicester on 10th May while working 1B10 (06:12 NOT-STP), the coupler and the bodywork at the front was damaged and it had to go back to Etches Park at a reduced speed. It didn’t see service again

I guerss that means that, with the 180s being off lease, this one will probably never see mainline service again and will either be used as a spares donor (for the other ones), or scrapped?

The other three 180s could easily go to Grand Central, who I think is the other operator that has the rest of the 180s.

Grand Central are binning their 180s in favour of ex-Avanti 221s.

Oh no, not the 221s, they're (IMO) a downgrade on the 180s.

Anyways, aside from that... if GC are getting rid of their 180s and EMR are also getting rid of theirs, any ideas what will happen to them? Will someone take them on? Or are they likely to be SIMS'ed?

I'd be amazed if anyone takes the 180s on. They are useless, and no one seems to be able to get any reliability out of them, and not for lack of trying to be fair.

Very poorly designed below the solebar. Air and electrickery passing over hot engines is never a winner, and they really don't like hot weather likewe are having at the moment.

GC did well until very recently, when reliability shot down completely. Can imagine maintenance costs post COVID have something to do with it.

Anyhow, a topic for another thread

Is there any reason why the station platform lights are always switched on at the northbound platform at Market Harborough? The car park and southbound platform and station approach ones don't come on in the daytime. Seems a waste of electricity particularly given the cost of electricity at the min.

Thanks!
Probably irrelevant now but did 180110 ever return to being a 5 car unit?
Yes, as demonstrated in the attached pic at Leicester after I got off the last ever southbound EMR 180 service. One can see how gleaming the repaired car is compared to the others!

Is there still a single random 158 running around in plain white with orange doors (but no EMR or EMT livery other than that)?
That was 158773/4 which were both put into EMR interim livery in (I think) 2020, all the rest are Stagecoach livery with EMR logos

Any idea why these 2 were put into interim livery and the rest weren't?

Also if the 158s are now staying long-term due to EMR retaining Liverpool-Norwich, do we expect them to get repainted into the full EMR regional livery?

They were done last for the PRM compliance work and repaint hence they were done under EMR not EMT. The white livery is the EMT Express livery without decals. Consequently they were in the right plain base for vinyling into the EMR Regional livery.

Yes, they're having a refurb and repaint starting next year I believe.

Makes sense, thanks for the explanation!

Excited to see what the 158s look like in the full livery next year

Probably one for a different thread, but Clinnick’s tweeted that two of the ex-EMR 180s are bound for Grand Central - is anyone able to confirm?

Have you got a link to the tweet? It's been mentioned on threads previously that it's unlikely, especially as GC have two Voyager sets going to them now, with possibly a full fleet of them if the trial is successful.
