Rode on an EMR 170 for the first time Monday between Crewe and Derby.
Absolutely massive upgrade comfort wise on a 156, (nice and quiet) but was not impressed with the state of the inside. When we’re they last refurbished internally?

Depends on the set number? If it’s one of the ex-WMR ones, 2008/9. The ex-TfW/Greater Anglia ones will be 2016/17 and the ex-Scotrail ones mostly unchanged since their 1999 introduction!

EMR got 170s from a lot of different places, so their internal condition varies

According to RTT, they were 170514 & 531.
Yep, both ex-WMR, so would have last been refurbished 14-15 years ago now!
Even that was more of a 'refresh', being relatively new from their Central Trains days.
New seat covers, carpets, and lime green tape over the blue Central stuff over the windows.
On several of them the blue tape is now showing through where the green peeled off.
They're still nice compared to a 156 though, from the passenger's perspective. I even had a group of lads out on the lash commenting on the upgraded trains the other week.
At least they made the effort to cover over the Central Trains tape though, ScotRail's "Corkerhill" 158s still retain their Regional Railways stripes on the overhead luggage racks

Anyone got a list of which 170s are yet to still be transferred from WMR?

When you say returned to WMR, is that permanent?
No - these are subleased back to WMR until the Class 196 units are ready for service. Some of them haven't actually seen use at EMR yet
Returned to WMR means that the unit returned to WMR after its repaint at Crewe and is currently in service in the West Midlands.

Looks like more 170s are due on Friday. Given that there's a path to Barrow Hill L.I.P after, I think it might be 3/4 units in multiple, presumably to make up for lost time since they were cancelled over the Christmas period.

Might have to pop out to Small Heath if it's more than one unit.. Guessing it a bit early to know which units will be making the trip?
I notice that Barrow Hill is qualified with 'L.I.P' which I understand means Loco Inspection Point.

Barrow Hill LIP as a destination is the roundhouse complex.
The other lines are a goods line each on the down side (down Barrow Hill Goods) and up side (up Staveley Goods) and the network sidings on the up side with the reception lines etc.
That already is the plan for them - the refurb has been downgraded in the same way it has for the 360s.
