There was no path, as it arrived approximately 1915ish, after the dwell time you couldn't get out infront of the 1920 Matlock without subsequently delaying the then 1932 London, which would have affected the 1936 Leicester and 1941 Birmingham. Had it followed the 1941 Birmingham there was then a conflict with the HST running North to Nottingham, and a subsequent Ivanhoe right behind that. By running via Trowell Jn it avoided all of these conflicts and was booked to pass around the time of a HST heading North. The alternative would have been a near 30min dwell time at Nottingham.
