Exactly - GBP 15 supplement from Cardiff to Shrewsbury or GBP 20 to Chester is very reasonable considering what is on offer.
That definitely looks white to me:
Class 175 in TfW livery

Cheapest by far is to get a standard advance and then upgrade on-train or at a station.Quite. If they're going to do anything to try and increase utilisation it might be to play around with 1st class APs at the moment I believe there is only one tier of 1st AP. For instance Cardiff to Chester is £57. There might be an argument for a slightly lower tier (down in the £40s maybe) which might trigger some more demand. Though if I were TfW I'd probably hold tight on tweaking the fares too much and see whether the existence of more trains offering 1st class might not actually stimulate demand in and of itself at the same price point.
Of course and that's my approach but it's perhaps not the most obvious to those just looking on the journey planner!Cheapest by far is to get a standard advance and then upgrade on-train or at a station.
In that case, we're all correct! The actual colour is called White Grey.

And if you do, make sure you get a seat reservation so you know you have a seat if it's running.
The vinyl should have been the same colour as the paint, however the vinyl is recyclable and the dye colour didn't take as expected. There wasn't enough time or wrap spare before the franchise launch so they had to go into service like that.
But anyway, it doesn't matter if they're white or grey as within two weeks you can't see it through the dirt and brake dust.
Bought a non-reserved same day upgrade at Cardiff central on the 4th of this month. Luckily it was the first day back after the Pontrilas disruption, and plenty of room.Booking offices have been reminded lately that they can only issue upgrades with a reservation, on the day upgrades can only be purchased on the service. Saves the recent issue of too many tickets and not enough seats.
Are these still just Monday-Friday (minus bank holidays) or is the working week for the LHCS being extended? Interestingly that appears to require the same number of sets (two) regardless of whether each set works just two workings a day (out from its home depot and back, with a long layover in Cardiff) or three workings (alternating between stabling at Cardiff and Holyhead overnight).New TFW diagrams from December. The Manchester set becomes Mk4s from 16th December.

If they go for keeping each set based at one end, the set that returns to Cardiff would have no work from 16:15 onwards. Do the crews that work the LHCS sign the GWML to Swansea? Because if they do, and that diagram is going to be four mark 3 TSOs (ie. no first class) that could be a useful peak time capacity help out of Cardiff as an interim measure until more DMUs are available.

Which is going to be an interesting challenge as it won't actually fit there. Or indeed on the down (southbound) platform at Abergavenny where the afternoon and evening services are booked to call. They also won't fit in either direction at Chirk and Ruabon which has some services mentioned. That's a new stop for Gerald southbound at Ludlow then. It was originally non-stop Shrewsbury-Newport
So does anyone know if there adding a new kitchen car into the Manchester MkIII set to run all 6 services a day with first and catering?
Or are they just keeping the Gerald set on the 5:34 Holyhead to Cardiff and 17:16 Cardiff to Holyhead as currently? This would then mean some units would be required to cover the midday Cardiff - Holyhead and subsequent return.

What diagram does the Manchester set work?
I saw a single TfW buffet car being hauled through Crewe station on Monday morning, while I was waiting for a connection. Headed north – possibly to be repaired and joined to the other set?The plan was initially to do the latter - that the diagrams wouldn't be covered in full as yet as there is only one working buffet car at present and that needs to go on the original Gerald services.
It does Crewe-Chester 0738-Manchester P 0952-Holyhead 1307-Manchester P 1650-Llandudno 1935-Crewe.

Why would they just work weekdays? With the present rolling stock shortages, I would have thought they would also have been out on weekends. Furthermore, the driving van trailer has loads of space for bicycles = ideal for the leisure traffic - which is surely mainly at weekends.
No, it was 10249 going to Crewe for an exam.I saw a single TfW buffet car being hauled through Crewe station on Monday morning, while I was waiting for a connection. Headed north – possibly to be repaired and joined to the other set?
The last I heard, Gerald will remain as now until May and the current north Wales rake will do 1W91 and return. A unit will work 1W93 / 1V98 and a rake of Mk4s will fill in on the current Crewe based turn until they are cleared to Cardiff at which point the three return trips above will all go Mk4.So does anyone know if there adding a new kitchen car into the Manchester MkIII set to run all 6 services a day with first and catering?

It’s incredibly cheap as it is, considering you get a full 3 course meal and soft drinks included.
I don’t think that’s particularly necessary. If it’s a quality product I will quite happily pay the current upgrade, or even a slightly more expensive one, to travel first.

Apologies if this has been covered up thread and I've missed, but following on from this do you know if that means the Manchester loco hauled will eventually revert to a unit, leaving the mk4's working solely Cardiff-Holyhead diagrams?
