All the forthcoming Streetdecks (whether it be 27 or 28 I’ve heard both quoted) will be going to Weston and that will be the only double deck type at the depot I’ve been told today, so all the E400s out as well as the B9s it would seem.

I can see 33825-33830 moving to Lawrence Hill or Hengrove or maybe even Bath?

The 5 B9s at Wells I assume stay there to keep up drivers type knowledge as the maintenance is done at Bath and Wells can utilise any Bath based decker then (well apart from Scanias and MMCs.

hopefully we will find out soon!

The Bath changes from 30/01/2022 are now up on the First WoE website: https://www.firstbus.co.uk/bristol-...changes/bath-surrounding-area-service-changes
First West of England is making some changes to its Bath services from 30 January, to address services that are financially unsustainable and introduce a number of timetable revisions to improve punctuality and reliability.

Following long-standing issues with commercial viability and detailed discussions with the West of England Combined Authority and Wiltshire Council, Service D1 will operate hourly, Monday to Friday daytime, from Bath to Warminster (Boreham Fields) via Trowbridge with the aid of short-term financial support from the Combined Authority. There will be no change to Sunday and Public Holiday services.

Service D1 will no longer operate between Warminster and Salisbury due to low passenger numbers but Wiltshire Council is working to source a replacement. In line with the changes to Service D1, Service D1x between Bath and Trowbridge will also be withdrawn due to very low passenger numbers.

Amongst a number of changes to improve reliability and punctuality, all journeys on Service 19 between Bath and Cribbs Causeway have been re-timed. Revised timings will also apply to Service D2 between Bath and Frome, which will also benefit from an additional afternoon peak journey to cope with high demand.

Other changes: -

Services 6, 6a and 7: City Centre – Fairfield Park/Larkhall Timetable & route map coming soon

To improve punctuality and reliability, Services 6, 6a and 7 will terminate and start at Grand Parade rather than Manvers Street during the day, Monday to Saturday. Evening, Sunday and Public Holiday journeys will continue to operate from Manvers Street.

Service 11: City Centre – Bathampton Timetable & route map coming soon

Minor timing changes only.

Service 12: City Centre – Haycombe Timetable & route map coming soon

Minor timing changes only.

Service 19: Bath – Cribbs Causeway Timetable & route map coming soon

In addition to the above, there are also changes to early morning journeys due to low customer demand.

Service 37: Bath – Bitton – Cherry Gardens – Bristol

This service will be withdrawn but school journeys will operate as Service OS1 and customers wishing to make onward journeys can use Service 45, which will be extended to Cherry Gardens to enable connection with Service 19.

Service D2: Bath – Frome Timetable & route map coming soon

In addition to the above, there will also be changes to the duplicate school buses to provide sufficient capacity for school movements along the route.

Service OS1 Timetable & route map coming soon

Two morning and afternoon peak journeys (Monday to Friday term time only) will operate between Hanham and Oldfield School to replace journeys on Service 37.

Service X39: Bath – Bristol Timetable & route map coming soon

The 0730 X39 departure will now depart 10 minutes earlier from Bristol Temple Meads to Hayesfield School to better align with the start of the school day.

First West of England’s Managing Director, Doug Claringbold, said:

We already made changes to some of our Bath timetables earlier last year, with frequencies reduced slightly on selected routes in response to the nationwide shortage of bus drivers, which has exacerbated existing difficulties with recruiting drivers in Bath and was impacting our ability to maintain service levels.

Unfortunately this comes on top of issues with the viability of some Bath services that pre-dated the pandemic and will not therefore be resolved by any recovery in passenger numbers. Although regrettably we have had to reduce service levels between Bath and Warminster and will no longer operate to Salisbury, the West of England Combined Authority has been able to provide financial support to a number of services to limit any changes coming into effect on 30 January.

We will continue to work with Mayor Dan Norris’ team, as well as Bath and North East Somerset Council and other stakeholders, to explore further options for protecting services. The challenges are significant, but we are committed to try and find the best solutions to keep people moving.”

Well, those changes aren't nearly as bad as had been rumoured.

The retention of the D1 is welcomed and not attaching it to the Bathford service is a relief; the D1x does just serve a load of nothingness from there to Bradford. Looks like Elmhurst keeps a service.

The demise of the 37 is not a surprise; it's had the death of a thousand cuts. However, the rumoured changes to the 171/178 don't seem to feature and that's a blessing. Making people transfer to the 349 in Keynsham would've been mental; they'd have been better off just extending a 349 to Radstock (and maybe that will happen eventually)

No not nearly as bad, but I suspect this is only a sticking plaster.

It’s rumoured that Salisbury Reds will run a D1 to/from Salisbury and Warminster to connect into the D1 to Bath.

The proposed 172/349 connection in Keynsham was never going to work as there’s no where for them to actually interchange, as they travel in different directions, the 172 would need to turn at the church roundabout missing the outbound 349 stop. Alan Peters idea of running the 172 to Bris P&R for a much better connection and more frequent service was better but would’ve come at an extra cost.

Rumour has it that Dan Norris has found fruit on his magic money tree, but i'm sure that'll be kept all nice and quiet between First and WECA.

I guess the 172 could've set down at the stop just up from there outside what was Nat West and people could walk to the 349 Bristol bound stop just down from there? However, it was a singular silly idea. To be honest, you wonder if the P&R, 349 and 178 may get some rationalisation at some point.

Bit surprised if Go Ahead has got the Warminster to Salisbury gig; thought Faresaver might have been better placed to run it from the Warminster end. So back to as you were in 2008 (?) when Wilts & Dorset did the 24 for a while before Hatts did it

I guess the passengers should be grateful that they have got a service. Again, I wondered if Faresaver might fancy that and finally vanquish First from Wiltshire.

I've just heard that the 178 has been saved from the axe so it is still going to be running and not being withdrawn.

Good to hear. I have never had to use it but chopping the 178 at a time when we are trying to get people to use public transport for commuting would have been silly.

Salisbury Reds wouldn't be that bad a choice but I guess it would depend on what timetable is proposed. However I think that this arrangement will only work if through ticketing may be had: if people have to buy two fares to get to Salisbury or Bath then the new arrangement may not last long.

There is a pretty low level of through travel across Warminster and it is almost non existent all the way from end to end on the route. Wiltshire Day Rover tickers are valid the whole length of the route, so that addresses the tiny number of passengers who aren't concessionary travellers.

Suppose so, but it wouldn’t encourage bus use!

If (when?) the P&R moves up to Hicks Gate it would make sense. The proposed bus service upgrade along the A4 corridor, a bus every 5 minutes, could work if the resources of the P&R, X39, 178 and 349 were combined. 349 and 178 could become shuttles from the P&R for onwards journeys.

66935 was reported as withdrawn from Hengrove in October and is listed in the December 2021 First fleet changes as ‘leaving the fleet’
Yes it was used on its last month/week in service on the 93 route Hengrove-Broadmead via Hartcliffe Way,Parson Street,Bedminster, Redcliffe and Bristol City Centre. It's usually single deckers that operate the 93 (well they used to be single decks the e200s either 44520 and 44523 or 44520 and 44907 or 44523 and 44907 but it was always 2 as the 93 is half hourly and it takes 20 or so minutes to get to Hengrove from Bristol City Centre. And then 1 e200 was left for the 24a service. Now the 93 uses either B9TLs or streetlites or the odd airport Scania. Now the e200s are at Bath but 44520 isn't yet but that's due to follow soon.

The 30/01/2022 Bristol area changes are also now up: https://www.firstbus.co.uk/bristol-...nned-changes/bristol-surrounding-area-service
First West of England is making some changes to its Bristol services to reflect changing customer demand and to improve punctuality and reliability on a number of key routes.

Following a review, the West of England Combined Authority has provided funding to reinstate evening and Sunday and Public Holiday journeys on Service 5 from the City Centre to Downend.

All inbound journeys to Bristol on Service Y1 Chipping Sodbury-Yate-Bristol will serve the new Park & Ride site on the A432 Badminton Road due to open at the end of January.

Despite the current challenges with driver numbers due to the pandemic, additional resources will be added to Service 24 between Southmead Hospital and Ashton Gate during the main part of the day to provide a significant improvement to its punctuality and reliability. Journeys have also been re-timed and will terminate at Ashton Gate, with none continuing to Ashton Vale. In Bedminster, due to the long term closure (inbound) of Dalby Avenue from 10 January, Service 24 will be re-routed on journeys towards Southmead Hospital only, to operate via Cannon Street, East Street and Bedminster Parade (serving all bus stops along the route). This change will avoid it being caught in excess congestion on Catherine Mead Street. To allow for these improvements to be provided within available driver resource during the main part of the day when passenger numbers are at their highest, late evening journeys will be reduced in frequency.

The changes will also see the introduction of a new service, Service 23, to continue serving Ashton Vale whilst addressing the issues with the service it replaces, Service 24a. Service 23a will restore a through bus between Ashton Vale and the City Centre via North Street, with journeys operating just over once an hour during the day, Monday to Saturday.

A further enhancement to existing services is the extension and re-routing of Service 71, which will provide additional frequency along the busy Gloucester Road whilst extending south of the City Centre.

All changes will come into effect on 30 January 2022.

First West of England’s Managing Director Doug Claringbold said:

“These changes are designed to improve the performance of several key services in the City, which have been beset by issues as traffic levels and, until recently, passenger numbers were increasing.

“We have also looked long and hard at how we can better service Ashton Vale and provide a connection into the City Centre, and the changes to Service 71 will provide important extra capacity once we emerge from the current restrictions and the number of people travelling increases again.

“Operating conditions continue to be difficult with the impact of the Omicron variant on staffing levels, but we continue to do our utmost to deliver a high level of service and to work with the Combined Authority to manage the network through these challenging times.

“As always, we’d like to thank all our customers for their patronage, and for their compliance with the current rules around face coverings as we seek to keep everyone moving safely.”

For full details of all timetable changes, please visit (insert weblink) before your journey.

Service 23: Ashton Vale – City Centre Timetable & route map coming soon

This service replaces Service 24a, which is withdrawn. The route will operate from Rupert Street, via Broad Quay, Redcliffe Hill, Catherine Mead Street, North Street, Ashton Road, Marsh Road, Winterstoke Road and Ashton Drive to Langley Crescent
Towards the City Centre, Service 23 will run from Langley Crescent via Ashton Drive, then follow the route of Service 24 including the diversion via East Street and Bedminster Parade (see below for full details) until Redcliff Hill. Service 23 will then use Bristol Bridge, Wine Street and Union Street to reach Rupert Street, stopping at Wine Street and providing a new link to this part of the City Centre.

Service 23 will operate just over once an hour Monday – Saturday during the day.

Service 24: Southmead Hospital – Ashton Gate Timetable & route map coming soon

The timetable for Service 24 has been re-timed to provide a significant improvement to punctuality and reliability across the day. Additional resource will be added to the service to allow for the increased timings.

All journeys on Service 24 will terminate at Ashton Gate, with none continuing to Ashton Vale.

To allow for these improvements to be provided within available driver resource during the main part of the day when passenger numbers are at their highest, late evening journeys will be reduced in frequency.

Due to the long term closure (inbound) of Dalby Avenue, Service 24 will be re-routed, on journeys towards Southmead Hospital only, to operate via Cannon Street, East Street and Bedminster Parade (serving all bus stops along the route) – this change will avoid Service 24 being caught in excess congestion on Catherine Mead Street. Please note that the change to run via East Street and Bedminster Parade will come into effect from 10 January, to coincide with the start of the roadworks.

Service 71: Parson Street – UWE, Frenchay Campus Timetable & route map coming soon

To provide additional frequency and capacity along the core section of Services 75 & 76, Service 71 will be re-routed and extended.

Services 75 & 76: Hengrove – Cribbs Causeway/Henbury Timetable & route map coming soon

The timetable of Services 75 and 76 have been re-timed to significantly improve the punctuality and reliability of both services across the day.

Service 90: Hengrove – Broadmead Timetable & route map coming soon

At Union Street in the City Centre on journeys towards Hengrove, Service 90 will now stop at the next stop up, at Union Street Stop B16 (currently used by Services 1, 2 and 2a).

There are no changes to the timetable.

Service 93: Hengrove – City Centre Timetable & route map coming soon

The timetable of Service 93 will be modified to improve punctuality and reliability.

Service X1: Weston-super-Mare – Bristol Timetable & route map coming soon

The timings of Service X1 have been altered to improve punctuality and reliability.

Services X3, X3a and X4: Bristol – Portishead Timetable & route map coming soon

Following a review with North Somerset Council of services to Portishead, Services X3, X3a and X4 will be replaced with an amended version of Service X4 which will operate every 30 minutes during the main part of the day Monday – Saturday (with a reduced frequency on evenings, Sundays and Public Holidays).

Service X4 will operate from Bristol via Hotwells, Abbots Leigh, Ham Green, Pill, Easton-in-Gordano, Sheepway, Sainsbury’s, Harbour Road, Portishead High Street, Combe Road, Avon Way, Weatherley Drive (Police HQ), Nore Road, West Hill, Avon Way then onward to Bristol as per the outbound journey.

The new Service X4 will not operate via Portishead Marina. This follows continued issues with parked vehicles disrupting buses and delaying the service, over a number of years. Customers can use Portishead local bus services provided by another operator which will continue to run via the Marina, or the stops on Harbour Road and Quays Avenue for the new Service X4.

Service X5: Weston-super-Mare – Clevedon – Portishead – Bristol Timetable & route map coming soon

Following a review with North Somerset Council, Service X5 will follow a new route to provide more direct, faster journeys. From Bristol, buses will run via the Portway as now, additionally serving the Akeman Way stops. In Portishead, Service X5 will run via Sheepway, Sainsbury’s, Harbour Road, Portishead High Street, Gordano School and via Clevedon Road to Clevedon. In Clevedon, buses will run via Walton Road, Old Street, Clevedon Triangle, Old Church Road, Southern Way and Central Way to the M5.

Service Y1: Bristol – Yate – Chipping Sodbury Timetable & route map coming soon

All inbound journeys to Bristol will serve the new Park & Ride site on the A432 Badminton Road. Due to their proximity to the new P&R stops, the Stover Road stops will no longer be served. Towards Yate and Chipping Sodbury, Service Y1 will serve the new stop on Badminton Road outside the site.

Services Y2, Y4 and Y6 Timetable & route map coming soon

At the new Yate Park & Ride site, these services will stop at the new stops on Badminton Road outside the site, instead of the Stover Road stops.
One or two unexpected developments, including the welcome return of evening and Sunday services on the 5.

Yes, those are rather curious omissions, especially as the 45 was mentioned in the Bath changes in connection with the withdrawal of the 37.
It’s been updated and all of the Bristol changes are on there now. Last night it was just the excel changes and Hengrove depot changes.

Service 45 will be re-routed and now serve Cherry Gardens rather than Cadbury Heath. At Longwell Green, from Bath Road buses will now operate via Watsons Road, Shellards Road, California Road, Long Beach Road, Bath Road and Willsbridge Hill to terminate at Cherry Gardens. Customers will be able to interchange at Cherry Gardens to Service 19 for onward connections to Bitton, Kelston and Bath. Along California Road and Long Beach Road, to travel to Bristol, customers will need to catch the bus from the opposite side of the road than they do at present. Services 43 and 44 will continue to serve Cadbury Heath.

Service 71: Parson Street – UWE, Frenchay Campus Timetable & route map coming soon

To provide additional frequency and capacity along the core section of Services 75 & 76, Service 71 will be re-routed and extended.

From UWE Frenchay Campus, Service 71 will operate its current route to McDonalds, then use Station Road (Link Road) to Filton Roundabout, then Gloucester Road North, Filton Road, Gloucester Road, Cheltenham Road, City Centre (stopping at Rupert Street, Electricity House & Broad Quay, and The Haymarket on return), Redcliff Hill, Bedminster Parade, Dalby Avenue (East Street on return) and West Street, terminating at the Parson Street stop on Bedminster Road.

Service 73: Temple Meads – Bristol Parkway – Cribbs Causeway

The timetable has been amended to improve punctuality and reliability. In addition, the route will be changed in Bradley Stoke, with buses will no longer serving Baileys Court Road, Webbs Wood Road or Bradley Stoke Way. Instead, between Orpheus Avenue and the Willow Brook Centre, buses will run via Brook Way, bringing a direct service to and from the City Centre to this area. To maintain an interchange with Services m1 and T1, Service 73 will additionally stop at the Willow Brook stop on the main road prior to entering the Willow Brook Centre.

There’s a bit more info about the Yate Park & Ride here: https://beta.southglos.gov.uk/yate-park-and-ride/
We are developing a new park and ride site in Yate to support more sustainable travel in the town and surrounding area.

How the park and ride will help reduce traffic levels

The new Yate park and ride will be a mobility hub that encourages people who travel locally and into Bristol to use different ways to travel.

They will be able to leave their car at the park and ride and chose to:

  • use public transport
  • cycle
  • share a car journey with someone else
  • walk

This will reduce congestion on the A432 Badminton Road corridor, improving air quality, emissions and public health.

What the park and ride will look like

The park and ride is being built next to the South Gloucestershire Council offices on Badminton Road.

It will have:

• 198 parking bays (including disabled, motorcycle, Car Club and car share bays)
• 38 electric vehicle (EV) charge points
• secure cycle parking for 46 bikes
• Brompton Dock bike hire facility
• new and improved local bus stops
• new pedestrian crossings
• click and collect parcel lockers

There will be bus services to take park and ride users into Bristol and Yate.

It will also be available for rail users at Yate Station, which is just an 8-minute walk from the site.

In the future, the site will be used by metrobus services when they extend to the area.

How the park and ride will be managed

The new Yate Park and Ride was given planning permission in November 2020.

You can read the planning application.

The £3.6 million project is being funded by the West of England Combine Authority and Local Enterprise Partnership through the Investment Fund, administered by the West of England Combined Authority.

We will manage the park and ride.

There will be a charge to everyone that uses the car park except for people using buses or the EV charge points.

Project timetable

We have approximate timescales and will keep the community up to date on the scheme as it progresses.

  • autumn 2020 – planning consent
  • early 2021 – work starts on site
  • early 2022 – site opens
It does read like they will be relying on the scheduled services to provide the buses, at least initially. I don’t know which Metrobus route will be extended, or if a completely new route is planned.

And fair play, given the way the world has been for the last 2 years, to get the project approved and delivered in a reasonable timescale looks like a very decent effort all round, so well done to all those involved.

Along with the updated information on Traveline, it would appear that stops have been allocated in the new Weston bus station which is being referred to as "Interchange".

Eastbound stops are as follows; A is the furthest from the sea front or High Street:
A (Nothing listed, assumed to be for coach services)
B X2 Bristol X5 Bristol
C 2 South Road X1 Bristol
D 5 Hutton 6 Worlebury 20 Burnham
E 7 Oldmixon
F 3 Worle

Westbound stops, G is closest to the High St:
G (Nothing listed)
H 7 Worle
I 3 Asda
J 5 Worle
K 4 Bleadon 51 Wrington

Furthermore, services 2, 4 and 6 are being reduced to every two hours from hourly which will save one of the two vehicles required on these services. Weston's other bus operator has not yet been invited to use the new facility, which continues North Somerset Council's long running standards in consulting with their stakeholders who aren't First.

I'm assuming this is land that the local authority already owned, they're certainly the planning authority for it so I'd suggest getting a 198 space car park ready in 2 years isn't a great achievement! It's a bit odd that it appears that any users who want to catch trains will be charged (given the location there will be zero users of it as a car park). It will suffer from the usual problem that any park and ride facility that doesn't have a dedicated bus service has (Gloucester for instance), plus the limited bus priority between there and Bristol (the bit by the M32 has been removed recently and the '2 plus' lane on the ring road might as well not exist at all. South Gloucestershire also has another useless park and ride facility that was set up at the eastern end of Parkway station.

Do you believe that North Somerset have identified any bus operators in their area that arent called First?

Weston's second bus operator may wish to nip down with a flag and other publicity material and claim stand G!

Perhaps pedantic on my part, but the consent wasn’t granted until Autumn 2020 so a bit less than 2 years. I just used that timescale to highlight the background context in which the project was delivered.

Building something as superficially simple as a car park involves a surprisingly sophisticated supply chain; it’s a bit more involved than a couple of shady-looking characters offering to tarmac your driveway!

All these points I wholeheartedly agree with. Food for thought, perhaps, for those who are quick to blame the nasty, profit-oriented private sector operators for not promoting “integrated transport”.

Anyway, to get things a little bit more back on-topic, at least the diversion/extension of the 45 will allow better integration opportunities with the Avon Valley Steam Railway at Bitton...

I'm sure it would get removed if i did. I suspect stand G is due to be used for services which have come in along Locking Road to set down before terminating at Marine Parade.

Staff at the Clevedon Lads Club are well aware I exist and am keen to be involved in such matters, but are apparently still upset that I had the temerity to publicly criticise their ludicrous procurement exercise last year.

To be fair, it has been really useful, just not as a Park & Ride!
(For those who don't know, it is currently set up semi-permanently with half of it a walk-in Covid testing station, and the other half the car park for said testing station).

Mind you a paltry one-two buses an hour each way (depending on day of the week) it does seem as though they've forgotten about it. Still, it has unbranded metrobus iPoints, so maybe one day with the metrobus extension to BPW it might actually get a half-secent service.
