Pretty standard start for Scunthorpe United. A 2-1 defeat, goalkeeper sent off, and 2 players out until after Christmas.

Now let's see if Channel 5 can make a success of the highlights show... The opening didn't fill me with hope, and the supposed feature game is pretty much done with inside ten minutes. Let's see how many ad-breaks they squeeze in...

A good start to the season for some of the sides promoted to the Conference (or National League as it is now called), with Barrow, Borehamwood and Bromley beating Dover, FC Halifax and Wrexham respectively.

I know it's not de-rigeur to quote oneself, but I can't believe it... They're interrupting the programme with a b****y lottery thing. Words fail me, and that's before getting into today's result!

Party pooping down on the South Coast gets us a good 3 points

Your club should be given a stern talking to by the league for ruining our party.

I missed the drama but it sounds like we were unable to put chances away and we really did miss the injured After. :(

Winchester City 7...Bridgwater Town 2 (Bentley 4, 9, 27, 31, 42 pen, Glasspool 50, Fay 87; Bushin 45, Best 56)

A fantastic performance from Warren Bentley who destroyed Bridgwater in the space of 45 minutes. We would be top had Cinderford not beaten Bashley 6-0. And our title odds are 33/1...

Great day out yesterday but the 93rd minute equaliser against us put a bit of a dampner on it having dominated the majority of the game.

Almost 1700 fans for an away game over 3 hours away is incredible support for 5th tier football. I doubt you'd get that anywhere else in the world.

Don't forget Villa have a habit of winning their first game of the season - then end up in the relegation mire a few months later.

Incidentally is there a minimum requirement with regard to Ground Capacity in the Premier League ?

Your ground only holds about 12,000 does it not ?

Either that such a requirement does not exist, or that the Premier League made a big do-do in processing our membership.

Either way I'm not fussed.

WBA 3 down against Manchester City.

Aguero coming on for the visitors and being able to bring such class off the bench just shows the gulf between the haves and the have-nots

Has Mike Dean forgotten he is able to brandish yellow cards to Man City players? :s

To be fair Claudio Yacob could have been sent off 3 times over. Nasty little player

Norwich City 1 Crystal Palace 3
As a lifelong Palace supporter we were lucky to come away with any points.
Alan Pardew admitted Palace were rubbish in the first 20 minutes. A brief spell when Palace scored two goals. A Norwich revival when they scored.
A goal by Norwich disallowed which would have made it 2-2 followed by a strong appeal for a penalty after a Norwich striker appeared to be pushed in the area. The third goal for Palace scored with the last kick of the match.
Anyway 3 points in the bag which is as many as we had by mid October last year.!

He also said he chose the wrong team initially (:o) - I bet he wouldn't have admitted to that had you lost.

That disallowed goal will probably be the worst refereeing decision of the season!

It's interesting to note that Simon Hooper (referee for this match) is not one of the select group of Premier league officials, it was his first PL match.

He appeared to initially give the goal until his linesman intervened

Tony Pulis seems to be blaming himself for going with two up front

There's some interesting results in tonights League Cup ....

Blackburn 1-2 Shrewsbury

Brentford 0-4 Oxford Utd

Huddersfield 1-2 Notts County

Luton Town 3-1 Bristol City

Northampton 3-0 Blackpool

Notts Forest 3-4 Walsall

Bolton 0-1 Burton Albion

And in the UEFA Super Cup, just coming up to the end of extra time, it's currently 5-4 to Barcelona, who were 4-1 up and cruising after 52 minutes.

Wimborne Town 5 - 6 Winchester City tonight - Warren Bentley got 4 more - like something out of Sunday morning football

Scores like that are often seen in the Highland League, together with some that look like Rugby scores, especially when Brora Rangers decide to annihilate lesser teams in league matches (they have already registered a score over 10 in one of their first three matches this season).

Part of me feels that Brentford deserved that for what they did to Mark Warburton. :p

Blimey! You standing up for West Brom?

Thought I'd never live to see the day.

Take nothing away from Oxford United but apparently Brentford put out a full reserve team, and I agree about the treatment of the breadman, one of the nicer people in football

I don't have much of an issue with West Brom apart from when we play them. I suppose in this case you could call it rooting for the underdog and even the commentators agreed with my sentiment (i.e their sentiment which I copied )

It's the foul stench from Small Heath that gets on my wick. Even the Severn Trent sewage works has less excrement in it <D
