Cesc Fabregas is a fantastic pundit. Detailed, insightful analysis of why England struggled in the second half and a marked contrast to Ferdinand and Richards banging on about passion and wanting it more.

Ferdinand’s incomprehensible response to how well spoken Bellingham was in his post-match interview was both hilarious and an utter embarrassment. God knows why the BBC employ him
Seen Cesc a few times as a pundit, very good, excellent insight from him.
I think I was more disappointed with Kane, as he said himself after the game his job was to be that target man for Pickford's clearances, holding the ball up to allow others to run on. Serbia were pressing very high, especially in the second half and balls out to the defence could easily lead to errors as we saw in the first. And for what it's worth I thought Serbia played their tactics very well, they could certainly be in with a shot of progression.
Agree, first 30 minutes we seemed ok but then Serbia got more into it & were no mugs.

Came here to say this. it was very, very embarrassing to watch. And Micah Richards going on about Joe Hart's tight shirt? What?

Bellingham is a very intelligent man for 20 years old and has all the potential to be a world beater.

He got quite frustrated with the lack of ball time and was dropping too deep - just one of those psychological things that affects hungry forwards but I'm surprised he wasn't shouted at to stay in the centre circle.

Yeah, its not a style of play he is yet fully comfortable with, his instinct will always be to drop deeper to start playmaking. Hopefully he can settle in a bit more for the next two games, because behind Bellingham looked supreme. There's goals in the England team, we just need to bed in with the system. We won't be facing a back 5 for every game so I'm still hopeful of decent progress.

First shock of the tournament today as Belgium were beaten 1-0 by Slovakia. In the earlier match Romania beat Ukraine 3-0.

An improved performance by Scotland, earning a 1-1 draw against Switzerland. A draw was a fair result, and almost guarantees Switzerland second place spot in the group!

Scotland will always brush up against their natural limitations; it doesn't matter if you have 3-4 excellent players, once you get people like Porteous and Ralston in the squad who play second tier football (and that is charitable in Ralston's case!) you end up committing too many errors. Shaqiri is a class act and punished Ralston's mistake superbly.

Steve Cooper in at Leicester, not sure how the fans will react to this one

Two days ago Graham Potter was showing 1/9 with the bookies so i can only think he values his money being paid by Chelsea more than getting back in to the game!

Wouldn't surprise me at all and also wouldn't surprise me if the FA obliged him. He seems to have a very high opinion of himself for someone that has achieved nothing in the game.

This is clearly one tournament too many for Southgate.

Ralston is reserve right back at Celtic to Alistair Johnston, who is at Copa America with Canada. So you are quite right but perhaps not in the way you intended. And he'll be on the bench at the very least in the Champions League group stages next season. Again. :p

Spain v Italy was a great game, Spain easily the better team. Only thing that spoilt it was the constant rolling around on the floor holding their heads (yes Spain i'm looking at you) like they'd been punched by Tyson Fury.

Yes, but lots of sly fouling by the Italians as well.

Excellent tactics and performances by Gareth & his boys so far.

Play for a scrappy win in the first game to get points on the board. Then play for a draw in the second to virtually guarantee progression into the next round. Probably scrape another draw in the third game. All the while playing as if they are a poor team with no ideas. Lull the opposition into a false sense of security.

Come the knock out stages we hit ‘em….

Yep, he clearly isn't learning from previous lessons. Serbia showed that we can't sit back too deep trying to defend a single goal lead, so what did Southgate do? Exactly the same. Once the dust has settled at the end wherever we end up, I think its time for him to call it a day.

What was this he said about Kalvin Phillips? He loves that man.
I just burst out laughing when I heard him say that.

Out of the whole squad, only Guehi and Pickford have looked half decent.
Unfortunately too many players are being asked to play in positions and / or in a way that they are not used to, thanks to Southgate's over-defensive tactics. We know this squad has goals in it, lots and lots of goals, but we ain't going to get them sitting so deep and inviting pressure.

England go a goal up then Harry Kane spends as much time in his own Penalty Area as he does in the opposition’s half.

Edit: Just seen a perfect comment on the BBC website.

Southgate is so negative he’s the type of guy who puts his IPhone on save battery mode when it’s 99% charged’

Time and time again we accomodate the best eleven by asking them to play in positions they don't play for their clubs while players who are a better fit for the system are left on the bench or, worse still, left out of the squad completely.

Have honestly never got why people love Southgate so much. A manager whose main weakness is making big tactical calls at crucial moments; completely unsuited to winning tournaments.

People just like that he's a Nice Bloke.
