Ok just home from Doncaster and checked mail.... Nothing. That's 18 weeks now. When I emailed a few weeks ago I was just told to sit tight and be patient.

that probably means that you are through to the jan intake and they are sorting out a slot for your medical. fingers crossed for you mate

Guys I understand how most of you feel, but I'm gob smacked! I too got the maybe on the March intake letter. I applied in May, Interview June, medical August which I passed. I didn't make September intake and now I haven't made the January intake! I spoke to HR in August about my medical and they confirmed all ok. I applied for Rugby and Crewe. Then here Crewe taking people on. Seems because it was my 2nd choice I lost out. Mixed emotions!

Sorry to hear that mate. Seems strange for them to spend money on the medical if you are not a definite

Hi I'm new to the forum. I'm in the same position as many of you and received a letter stating you did well in the interview and you may be considered if there is a march intake or a further intake after this.
I really didn't expect to be in the January intake as I knew there were so many applicants already further ahead in the process than I was. I had my interview in September but was meant to have it in July, however I received a phone call while at work from a Freightliner manager asking where I was as he was waiting to interview me. Apparently no one had been sent letters for that day of interviewing so it was rearranged for September. Looking at what people have already posted on here I don't think it made all that much difference as some people have been waiting many weeks for a response.
I hate to be the Grim reaper in terms of the March applications but I myself can't see that I will be getting a place if a course runs. The letter I received clearly stated that there was a high calibre of candidates (ones that will get the jobs). I think that those placed into the pool will be back ups for any that will have already have being chosen for March but may fail medicals, references etc...
Just my thought and I have no inside knowledge or experience of how the HR departments work.
Good luck to everyone, I really hope I'm wrong and fingers crossed good news is round the corner!!!

Cheers for positive vibe there but until I see it in black and white then I'm still in dark. Would be great timing if I did get January intake as current job ending end of year then I'm back to looking

With all the ups and downs with the letters I've lost track whether anyone has actually been confirmed for Jan or March yet?

There have been a few confirmed for the Han intake, who had their interviews in July & had their medical before confirmation

The people who had interviews in Sept have mainly either had a no letter or a maybe for march letter.

No one has had a march confirmation letter

No free travel for family and the only free travel u are entitled to is when you are travelling to or from depot in connection with that particular shift (for example u May book on Lawley street but your diagram starts at Nuneaton, in this case u are usually booked the travel time as part of your shift and you will get that journey free).

As for days out free..... Depends how well u can blag it to a guard/train manager I guess.

I am 99% certain one of the perks was free travel with family entitled to 75% discounted travel

I can 100% confirm you get no travel discounts at present from Freightliner.

However, Freightliner as a group ( so including intermodal and HH) are introducing a benefit scheme called freightlinerlife next month. This will include benefits such as health screening, dental care, cycle to work scheme, cheap car leasing and discounts on other products.

Thanks that's good to know. Could do with a new bicycle

I was meaning the passenger companies giving discount or free travel to freightliner employees as apposed to the discount coming directly from freightliner. I'm rubbish at chancing my arm lol

Are there many out there in the forum who have been through the assessments and the interview and still have not heard anything since?

I didn't do the assessments with frightliner (come on it's the 31st tomorrow, get in the spirit!) but I did do the interview in june and i've not heard anything at all since.

You know the old adage - if you ain't got owt nice to say... ;) so I'm considering myself snookered for this one haha.

*twiddles thumbs in a contemplating manner*

I just can't believe how many TOCs and FOCs treat future candidates the way they do. Yes so many apply so they can pick and choose but the recruitment process is horrendous! "Talent pools" are the favourite word of the day. Before anyone jumps on me and says companies read these forums, I really don't care... I've passed my assessments, i've got through an interview with 2 different companies and a medical with the other and still no job! People who have come after me have started and still nothing... Hey Ho it all comes down to the depot you choose, oh silly me for choosing one of the advertised locations and seeing several candidates be offered a location which was never advertised! This industry must be run by Alan Sugar! You're not fired, you're never hired!

I can understand your frustration but try and stay positive. You haven't been knocked back and you might be one of the first to be offered a place in the March intake. You're in a good position at the minute.

well done for getting on the January intake guys! Make sure you keep us posted about how its going!! I'd be interested to hear from any of the guys in the September intake about what it's been like so far and what its like working for freightliner now. Fingers crossed they continue filling more courses!

A quick question for all those who started in September& those starting in January, when did you have your assessments & interviews?

This my timeline after application:
3rd June: emailed to say passed application
17th June: Stage 1 tests
4th Aug: Stage 2 tests & MMI
24tg Sept: DM interview

Regards
Darryl

This may explain why some of us didn't get a position, must have not been in the budget this side of the tax year, freightliner group is up for sale!

Very interesting but change at the very top shouldn't affect the day to day running of the business and therefore shouldn't affect those that are training, scheduled to train or hoping to be in in the future. Still waiting to hear and just wish I knew either way.

The agreed sale price of a business is adjusted by a number of financial factors which could include how much profit has been made. New trainee drivers won't be earning any profit for many months, so will reduce profit in the short term. Therefore I would be surprised if any more trainee drivers are employed until the business has been sold and new owners have decided if they need more trainees. However, I probably be completely wrong!
