The 158s on loan to FSR look as if they will be remaining with FSR for the forseeable future, so will be on a similar arrangement with Northern as the 322s are with NXEA

I think it's a great idea to have one livery. How many millions are spent on rebrandings everytime a franchise changes hands? They could bring back InterCity for the main routes, with Regional Railways for the local stuff. Let the Open Access operators and the freight companies keep their identities though

Regarding 786 and 789, someone should tell Newton Heath, one of them seems to be heading towards Northern livery! The belief was these two were coming our way now to assist with the Nottingham services from December.

Not that I keep much track of individual units any more, but 158786 and 158789 are no longer in use by FSR and these were recently returned to the RoSCO following completion of their 158 refurbishment program
The information I have is that FSR have other units on loan and these are only to cover during the entire fleet repaint

Does seem rather ironic that FGW has loaned 158s to Northern, and Northern has loaned units to FSR

158786 will be back in use by FSR next week, after vinyls have been applied, due back at Haymarket before Monday
Work was completed by Newton Heath earlier this week and approved on Wednesday
A colleague looked up TRUST and we couldn't make out the location, looked like Doncaster, but knew that couldn't be right so it must have an abbreviation for a siding

I'm looking forward to seeing the livery roll out. I think it will look rather good TBH.

Is it not the case that there are actually fewer liveries now than there were during the first phase of privitisation (excluding new companies and trains carrying old liveries awaiting repainting or rebranding)?

Agreed, looks like someone didn't follow the instructions, or the outline plan for SSR livery wasn't available in time
I have sent that link to the person dealing with the TS relaunch, and I reckon shes going to have a ^%^$

So long as there are three units ready for 01 September
Should be quite easy to repaint and cover over the upper white stripe, the rest are "simple" vinyls

EFPM and EFSK
There were units from those pools on sub-lease to Northern

158786 is still showing as EDGA but will be operating on HAHE

This is the biggest waste of money i think the railways have seen this year.
Painting already just painting trains into another livery.
It'll be the staff uniforms changing colours next.
Who comes up with these idea's anyway ?
The next company that takes over the franchise will just change the colours again.
I know they say they won't but they will.

Ok

1. The trains will be redone when they need it! (Routine maintenece and that includes livery)
2. Uniforms will change in October but that happens ever year as part of a re-issue.
3. I would presume it will be built into the contract that they cannot change the livery bar the company logo on the doors.

I was under the impression that all that was being done was ripping off the Barbie vinyls, leaving the base coat and sticking on ScotRail vinyls instead. (OK the SPT relivery will be a bit more involved)

Thats what I meant, the Barbie vinyls are replaced constantly due to general wear and tear, they can become tatty.

The station repaints are the 'more expensive' part, since some stations look not o have been painted since the 1970's.....

It will in the long term reduce costs though, because a small logo on each cab door is all that will need to be changed. In that sense it becomes more like a concession, with the operator having a minor part in the franchise image.

Er no. The franchise states what the livery will be. If Transport Scotland say this is what it will be, then this is what it will be. Only a change in g0overnment opinion will change it from now on.

One word for for that livery: stunning. I can see some people not liking it, but I think it's amazing. The "first" branding on the doors is small as well; another great feature IMO. I like that

I'm very sure that the livery will be continued with only the company logos changing: a great thing that will certainly save money in years to come allowing for other, more important work to be carried out, such as comfort improvements, ambiance improvements, technical improvements or even allowing the money to be used improving the line and permanent way. I bet you could do quite a bit with the money; I think about 300 or so trains cost rather a lot to repaint!

To be fair, the "First" logos are tiny and discrete; I didn't even see them the first time I looked! And you really do need to let them stick their brand somewhere, considering they're investing quite a bit in the service.

Yes the trains are still run by First Group, managed by First Group and staff still wear First Group uniforms.

Aren't the trains still being operated by First though?

Yes. no change to that part of the franchise. This was part of a franchise extension agreement with new targets, station reopenings, journey time improvements and investment from both First and Transport Scotland.

Then I think the First logos shouldn't just be tiny things on the doors. They should play equal part to the livery.

So do I. I think that will change on later versions of the livery.
All literature should have the First logo on it though and we are still calling ourselves First ScotRail.

The whole point is to avoid a livery change each franchise change. So come the franchise change, if (say) NX get it, the first logo is peeled off and a NX logo in its place. Thus the cost of changing operator is reduced. It also means that the image and branding of the railways is consistent.
