There are a lot of pictures springing up right now of GBRF using D1015 on freight workings over the past couple of days. I'm told they've hired it - can anyone tell me if this is going to last any length of time? Is there not an issue with staff familiarity when everyone's used to 66s if you suddenly start putting Deltics and Westerns into service?

It's a trial, so I should imagine that it depends on how well it performs before a decision is made on how long. If it's kept to just one or two suitable diagrams then there will not be a lot of staff to train.
Looking forward to seeing it in some nice daylight, so as to get some good pics. of it.

Not if you train staff accordingly or have staff who previously drove them. One of the GBRf guys who drives the Deltic was previously a Driver Team Manager for VXC when that TOC used D9000, while GBRf undertook some staff training with the Western at Tyseley last month. Even the charter train operators have to undertake training - DBS drivers should be going to Barrow Hill this weekend for a Deltic refresher.

Edit
just got back from Yorks and went online and not sure what happened but the return working was cancelled this morning according to realtime http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/search/advanced/WEL/2013/11/13/0000-2359?stp=WVS&show=all&order=wtt

and there doesn't appear to be another return booked although light engine moves from Mountsorrel down to Wellingborough unless they activate the light engine move back later tonight so assume she is still at Wellingborough

It certainly ran with empties from Wellingborough late this morning (unless there's another maroon Western that was sat in Humberstone Road sidings at 1230 today!).

that's good news , she didn't break then
just going by the data that said cancelled fro that train

Will pop down to Oakham Station a bit earlier tomorrow as she caught me out being 10 mins ahead of time at Oakham despite leaving 38 mins late setting off!! so only got sound as had poor lighting at Brooke rd LC
At 5 in morning on a cold clear night, she echoed off the hills. God knows what folks next to the line though was coming through!!

I gather it had problems today - 90 odd late arriving this morning and return train shown as cancelled, though I heard it had slipped to a stand north of Kettering and subsequently returned to Wellingborough.
